Hey I'm an Author Now

I don't like the survivor contest. I know they put it up there so that authors would write...but I think forcing as many short stories out as possible can ruin an author. I know there are many great authors that do the contest but to rush right in and do it from the start, you've got guts.

it's a killer. ruined a year of my life!

oh no, that was the army.

Welcome Princess! :rose:

Survivor is what you make of it. Sure, the thought of winning cash can help you churn lotsa stories out, thus sending you into a premature nervous breakdown. Personally I use it as a tool for motivating me to write in categories I might not have previously considered. I managed to win an Amazon voucher last year just by doing something I enjoy!! I was happy with that. :D

But the stories you churn out aren't crap. Some of the stuff is. I'd be happy with an Amazon voucher too. They've got some cool stuff on Amazon.

I wouldn't have had mine if I hadn't noticed on the original announcement thread (quite some time after the event), that I needed to PM Laurel in order to receive my voucher!!

Try PM'ing her now - you might get lucky!;)

Thanks Dani  I try to keep a certain level of quality in my submissions!

I agree though, some of the stuff written for the contest is not exactly of great quality. But then that is true of stuff NOT entered in survivor.

I was pretty pleased with my voucher - although the exchange rate meant it wasn't worth too much! But it bought me a book I wanted, so it was cool.

I"ve always wanted to sit down and write stories. I have a million ideas in my head and figured this was a good way to get them all out and written down. If at the end of the year I like writing and I've gotten better then great, if not I can move on and continue to read the great stories that are on here.

I posted a story for the V-day contest? Really I didn't think I did. And yes I am jumping right in. I'm trying to do the survivor contest which right now means writing stories in categories I wouldn't normally write in - and getting some very interesting feedback.

This is the first year since 2005 that I'm not doing the contest, but I'm moderating this year, so I'm still involved, just not as a participant. Good luck with it! :)
