Hey everybody, have a great holiday weekend!

what holiday are you celebrating on the other side of the pond

will there be a special announcment or service for the sept 11th victims

is there also something you wear as a symbol of your thoughts

her in u.k we wear a red poppy which you donate change toward the war pensioners

I don't claim to be an expert on this, just listening to radio this am. Supposedly after the civil war (1861-1865) the women from the south would go decorate the war graves of the southern soldiers. There was a poem or story written about this.

The north (Union) celebrated their own "veterans day" on a different date. After WWI is when the holiday came to honor all of America's dead killed during wars, not just the civil war. This is when one of the Presidents adopted it as a holiday.

The members of veterans of foreign wars organizations around the US sell those red poppies too at this time of year. They have been accepting donations out in front of the grocery stores for the past week or so.
