Hey Bri

any suggestions on what to pack?

A voltage adapter if you're bringing a hairdryer or anything else electical.
A calculator to convert money if you're bad with sums
Loads of cigarettes if you smoke, and loads of cigarettes for me if you don't!

For general daily stuff, like the museum or library? I'm told the style of dress there is noticably different.

I wouldn't suggest you walk into the British museaum in cut off jean shorts and a tank top, but anything else is fine. We have Gap and other American retailers here, it's not that different except for the decided lack of LL Bean style clothing. You won't look "weird" though you may look "different." The place is packed with American tourists.

Also, I'll be at the Univ. of London,
Which college? They all have their own campuses across London. It makes a difference.

any suggestions on travel-which airports would be more convenient, cheaper, things that will make travelling easier?

Either Gatwick or Heathrow is fine. They both have very good rail connections to the City via the Gatwick or Heathrow Express.

When you get off at the train station, just be prepared to take a taxi to wherever you're staying. Don't try to cope with the tube or buses with luggage, lifts, escalators, jetlag and generally being overwhelmed. Set aside something like $25 for this cab ride, though it will probably be less. It sounds expensive, but just do it.

I'm going to flying in a week in advance, and I need somewhere to stay-probably end up at a hostel, but I need to know where I would be safest-and what's the simplest way to do things because I'll be travelling alone. (My first time going international alone.)

Travelling alone here is NOT a problem; just be alert, cautious, careful with your belongings and passport, and stay out of dark shadowy places, eh?

Accommodation: you're in luck. The best, cheapest and safest place to stay is in any University halls of residence, which are availible after Uni lets out. Almost all colleges do this, but it's really popular so you should book now.

In general, you MUST buy Let's Go London, the best guide book ever. It will give you all the halls of residence info and contact details, answer every question you've asked and more, and is written by college kids and grad students.

Honestly, buy it and read it. You'll feel so much more comfortable.
