Heros/Heroines

Mickey Mantle -
He could hit a baseball so far he didn't have to run. If you are a slow white boy, you gotta love that. :D

Lynn Dollar -
Some gal who spun the wheel or some damn thing on a game show. She wore knit dresses and had the all time greastest ass ever seen on TV. Well, she wasn't exactly my hero, but she sure as hell inspired me a lot and often as I recall.

THAT GOOSE!

Minsue, that goose in armor IS my new hero. Allow me to erect a small shrine to it.

Just be careful with the candles, feathers are flammable.

Don't worry, Goosie.

I think that shrine is more in the nature of an occasional fountain than an eternal flame.

Sorsha, also know as Joanne Whally (sp?), I had the biggest crush on her.

Strong, smart and oh, so beautiful. :)

She was once married to Val Kilmer, so she's far from perfect.

They got divorced, so she's smart. I liked her as Christine Keeler in the film "Scandal".

OH MIGHTY ISIS

Anyone remember Isis? Young science teacher transforms into hot Egyptian goddess who can fly and command the elements - animals, fire, water, wind.

Oh zephyr winds which blow on high,
lift me now so I can fly!

Yeah, Mantle for me, too. The first book I ever put my meager allowance toward was a bio of him. Which got me into reading which produced the next few: Batman, Tarzan, Robin Hood, Aquaman, Superman and eventually James Bond.

Kate Hepburn and a little heroine named Black Canary and Maid Marian (Olivia de Haviland) and Sheena of the Jungle.

Currently, however, Tatelou for her new AV!

My list would depend on my age at the time and whether fictional or RL people.

Assume first period of hero worship:

Heroes:
Dan Dare (from Eagle comic)
Allan Quartermain - by Rider Haggard
Bulldog Drummond - by Sapper
Richard Hannay (39 Steps by John Buchan)

Heroines:
Penelope (Odysseus' wife from Homer's Odyssey)
Ayesha (She, Ayesha, She and Allan by Rider Haggard)
And shared with others Wonder Woman

Real Life:

Heroes:
Douglas Bader
Capt. Walker of the Atlantic anti-UBoat campaign
Captain, name forgotten, of the sinking ship 'Flying Enterprise'

Heroines:
Edith Cavell
Violette Szabo
My big sister who died when I was 7. Then her 'best friend', my elder cousin who looked after me because she had promised my sister. She kept that promise for years.

I just remembered. When a kid, I had the extreme desire to be a tennis pro. It was the only thing I thought about. My parents had sawed off one of those wooden raquets, which I used from 5 until I could actually hold a full one. Played every freaking day, and I so looked up to and was inspired by the likes of Billy Jean King, Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova. Not sure I could call them hero's though. :) And then I turned 14.

Sigh, dreams lost to the rebelliousness of teen years.

I still like to play, though. :) Although I must just complain about the size of raquet heads these days. How the hell can you miss with those! :D

LOL - and I bet you look at the raquet afterwards, wondering where the hole disappeared to? :rose:

I so wanted to go on adventures with Johnny Quest!!!

I loved that cartoon when I was younger, and the new one they've done recently isn't anywhere near as good.

Dear lord, how did I forget Robin Hood? More to the point ... how in a thousand years could I possibly have forgotten Will Scarlett? *falls into dreaming reverie*

Honestly I don't really look up to them, I just wanted to offer them out.

Don't mind looking after Lucy though....;)

Oh, if you're going there....Morgaine Le Fey. "The Mists of Avalon" one of the best books ever.

I remember when I was a kid watching HBO broadcast the Broadway version of Camelot . . . still one of my favorite plays ever, though I don't get much culture down here. :(

I think I've seen a high school version but never a well acted version of an Athurian tale. Either on stage or on screen.
