... as opposed to surviving :)

This is Day One of my six-week break, and for the first time in months I feel totally free. I have no deadlines, no timetable, no schedule - just an expanse of time at my hands to relax and enjoy all the little things I haven't been able to appreciate for so long that it was starting to make me feel ill. :(

So here's to getting up whenever I feel ready to.

Here's to eating when I feel hungry, as opposed to waiting for an allocated lunch hour.

Here's to morning walks along the coast and having the time to notice things like the scent of the flowers, the warmth of the breeze against my face, the ocean views, the butterflies, the vole scrabbling into the bushes and the faint buzz of aeroplanes.

Here's to the mindless little distractions, like watching the cut scene in the Enter the Matrix video game, where Niobe kisses Persephone.

Here's to having my dog come up for an early morning cuddle while I'm reading in bed.

Here's to window shopping, as opposed to necessity buying.

Here's to not having my performance judged every working day.

Here's to not being stuck around people when I'd prefer to be on my own.

:rose:  :rose:

I could go on for a very long time, but I'd probably be delirious by the time I got to the end of the list.

Why do we put so much pressure on each other? Little things like tailgating the person in front if they're going to slow, expecting a service provided by humans to be superhumanly perfect. Nothing ever seems good enough in our society. We might achieve something really fantastic at work, but the next week there's always a self-evaluation / self-improvement form to be filled in, and our next target is set before we've had the chance to enjoy fulfilling the first.

Feel free to add to the list :rose:

Here's to lingering over that morning cup of coffee.

Here's to staying up late at night because it's just too damned interesting not to.

Here's to finally having the time to read all those books I've been meaning to read.

:rose: Nice thread, Scheherazade. Enjoy yourself!

Here's to staying in my dressing gown all day

Here's to watching crappy daytime television

here's to getting drunk in the afternoon

here's to doing whatever the hell you like just because you can!

Have a wonderful break :rose:

This is Day One of my six-week break..

Amen, to all of that!

My girls broke up from school at lunchtime today, and here's to six weeks of long summer days with them. Trips down to the river, with picnics, as we watch our dog splash and swim. Days out at the beach, and burying each other up to our necks. Barbeques in the garden. Family trips out to so many brilliant places close by (including Salisbury and Stonehenge). A family holiday, either to Edinburgh or Devon (we haven't quite decided yet!). And on days when we've got nothing planned: not having to get up early in the morning.

There won't be that many more summers like this, because children don't stay young nearly long enough. I intend to make the most of it! :)

You go girl! :rose: Congrats! My school vacation is coming up after next Thursday and I'll be joining you in sleeping in. :) I'm jealous! :D Enjoy your free time!! :D

Just to prove my point, I was driving from the supermarket when something flew off another car and sliced up my front tyre. I managed to pull over, jack it up, unscrew the bolts, but the tyre was jammed, so I had to call out the breakdown service.

Because I wasn't preoccupied with staying afloat at work I was able to make quite an evening of it. I had food in the car, half a spliff and my bike, so I ended up cycling along the river and going for a picnic while I waited for the guy to turn up. Just as well, because he took bloody ages! I'm starting to think that I never want to work again! :)

Enjoy every little bit of it.

While I fervently belive life is here to be enjoyed, and I work hard at enjoying it, those times where we have no limits are fantastic. Even though I am getting ready to move I am actually enjoying the packing, it gives me a chance to review what we have and remember how we got it. Once we move, (at the end of the month,) we will of course have all the fun of unpacking and getting settled in. (Have you sensed the sarcasm yet?)

However at the end of August we have decided to take a week off. By then we will have been settled in enough to really enjoy our place. Our intentions are to wake up late, enjoy the yard in the nude, and go to bed late. We will take time to enjoy each other as well as each others bodies. (I might even take the time to log on and check the boards. ) We shall have some fun and relax.

Congrats on the time off. do something for yourself each day and above all relax and enjoy life.
