The problem is, the Pubs finally have power and don't know what to do with it. They don't know what they want to do about health care or anything else. They know they want to undo everything the Dems and even moderate to liberal Pubs have done since 1933, but now they're learning that actually undoing it would be political suicide in the reddest of states; and beyond that they haven't a clue. The old kind of Pub who is both capable of and interested in constructive policy proposals has been sidelined. Even W's feeble "compassionate conservatism" would be off the table in today's GOP.

You don't own the frame, so stop trying to paint the canvas. But you do get props for finally posting something other than a C&P...

Republicans are facing another government shutdown, and they may not be able to stop it.

A shutdown is “more likely than not,” Axios reported on Monday, pointing to April 29 as the day that the government will cease its routine functions after the last continuing resolution on funding expires. The last time the government shut down was in 2013, an event that lasted for two weeks. But that shutdown was a political maneuver, designed by Republicans who vehemently opposed former President Barack Obama’s immigration policies. But this isn’t 2013, and the Republicans aren’t against anything. They just have an inability to govern.

“There are some folks in the Republican House caucus who have yet to make the pivot from complaining to governing,” Republican pollster Whit Ayres recently told the Associated Press. “And this is a White House controlled by a politician who is not really trying to lead a party.”

The Republican congressional leadership is so desperate that it’s starting to consider approaching moderate Democrats and the Congressional Black Caucus — a group that President Donald Trump singled out during a press conference last month — because the ultraconservative coalition known as the House Freedom Caucus is unlikely to work with the party to pass anything. That message was repeated by Rep. Ted Poe, R- Texas, who announced on Sunday he was stepping down as a member of the House Freedom Caucus.

There should be a shutdown. Then there should be a bunch of cuts to the most wasteful parts of government.

That's supposed to be the point of Trump's budget, but it turns out the targeted programs ain't that wasteful, only unpopular with RWs, and, more importantly, the people don't want to lose them.

Let it roll. Keep non-essential employees home and don't call them back.

Amen.
It will be interesting to see how Americans will react when the president doesn't lie about Social Security checks not being sent on time.
The shutdown should include non-essential services (almost all of them) that shut down anyway at 4:30 p.m. Fridays. Exceptions would be the Social Security Administration and a few others that actually provide services people rely on regularly.
The shutdown would include Energy, Education, EPA and a boatload of others that meddle rather than perform essential services.
I recall during the last "shutdown" that boaters were fined at Lake Mead for being on the lake. The citations were issued by park rangers, the same people who patrol the lake when there isn't a shutdown. Someone explain how this makes sense.

Amen!

Now, who is "non-essential"?
Those Social Security checks that aren't being sent? Are those to #45's bigly number of 47% of the population that he says are unemployed?

You fuckers keep making shit up as you go along. How'd that work out for Ryan?

The Democrats lost and have no real power without a Congress majority. Get over it! Your side is in charge now. Anything goes tits up the GoP is to blame.

I think most of America realizes this. The Freedom Caucus attempted to spin their defeat as the fault of the Democrats, but outside of Donald's fanboy base nobody was buying what they were selling.

The Republican party, simply put, has forgotten how to govern.

If this pattern keeps up, Trump will be forced to play his Reichstag Fire card sooner than later.

It's only been 8 years! Forgotten how to govern? Are they all rookie politicians like their leader? Is Congress stacked with political noobies? I can see the WH having a steep learning curve. But for Congress this should be business as usual but with a majority. If you can't whip your own party into line, you have big problems within your own party. Stop blaming those who are out of power for todays fuck ups!

The Republicans have spent the last 8 years preening and playing up to Fox News and alt-right news outfits, because they knew they had no chance of passing veto-proof legislation.

Now they have no such excuse, and are finding that "compromise solutions" take actual work.

Their problem is they are a bunch of pussies. They control the whole government fomr dog catcher to pussy grabber and still can't pass a bill.

Put up or shut up GOP! Time to enact all those policies you said would save 'Merica (sic)!!

Not really, and I hate half the GOP as well as the Democrat Party. I'm a conservative, not a Republican. I had to vote for Trump to save my country from the destruction a Hillary Clinton would have brought.

Obama didn't bring it destruction; there is no good reason to think Hillary would have either; but now it is increasingly obvious Trump might. Preventing it depends on the half of the GOP you hate, if they can only grow the guts to stand up to him.

Democrats who stood by and watched the destruction wrought by the Obama presidency now all of a sudden becoming concerned for their country is a friggin joke. So, please give it up.

You're blind. Blind to his lawlessness, his treason, his anti-Americanism, his moral cowardice. You're pathetic.
