If a fetus has defects that will make it unable to function without assistance in a normal life, those defects are apparent LONG before birth. When those defects become apparent, the parents, and ONLY the parents, need to make an immediate decision to either abort the pregnancy or accept the responsibility for the care of human being that will never be able to care for itself.

Truth be told I consider myself somewhat Pro-choice. Actually it's more like Pro-"it's none of your fucking business. Shut the fuck up." In other words, if you are not pregnant or the SO of someone pregnant with your child, if you are not the parents of a teenage girl who is pregnant or the parents of the teenage boy who got her pregnant, then it is not YOUR concern and you have no say in it.

That said, I also believe that by 8 weeks there is no way a woman does not know, or at least suspect, that she is pregnant. They need to find out for sure and make the decision to live with it or get rid of it. Yes in the case of serious birth defects I could see making that decision as late as 6 mo. After that, if you haven't made a decision, you deserve to have to live with the consequences. I do not believe in abortion as a form of birth control and I DAMN SURE don't believe the gov't should pay for it.

I will also say that I have no plans of waiting til I am drooling, wearing adult diapers and don't remember my own name to have someone off me. At such a time as I feel I can no longer support or care for myself, I will swallow a couple of bottle of pills and go for a LOOONG walk in the woods. I will not allow myself to be a burden on someone else. I and I alone am responsible for my life.

Only the hardest of the pro life would argue against an abortion and the Catholic church is against all abortions. Save your 'priest are pettifiles' for a rainy day argument.
