trump and mcconnell succeed in pushing a new justice through before the election and change the balance of the court. will the evangelicals and the rabid right still need him? after he's given them what they want, will they want to put up with the daily circus? it could very well backfire for him.

This proves how little you understand your opposition.

Nope. This is the very last thing that any of his supporters with a brain need/want from him. He'll still have some dummies, including the board Trumpettes, in tow, though--the kind of folks who will show up for one of his rallies without face masks and sitting on top of each other even after he's said he's not scared because they don't let the sad sacks come close to him in these rallies.

then enlighten us, all knowing one.

I've been asking questions of both sides, and get polite responses from one side, and name calling and emotional ranting from the other.

Surely you can see a problem with that?

If you're seeing "polite responses" from the right, then I'd like some of what you're smoking please!

For the reasons you cited, I think that support will erode over time. But trump being the criminal that he is will scam a way for some slush fund of money they'll have to spend to keep them. I'm not sure that money would come from after the election.

I have no doubt the crazy right will turn out in droves for him no matter what, which is why our side has to get out the vote like never before. The good news is, this latest nakedly hypocritical power grab is likely to do just that for us. In the longer term, I imagine if they manage to overturn Roe v Wade, it will lower support from Evangelicals - which is exactly why savvy Republicans don't actually want it to happen. But Trump ain't that smart.

What he's seeing is the memos from Moscow.

Either that or the venom just doesn't bother him when he agrees with it. Which makes perfect sense, but you should at least be honest with yourself about your partisanship. I try to be.

I won't post them, but they have been remarkably free of ranting. Just points of view to be considered.

I agree with what makes sense to me, be it left or right. When the left makes a reasonable argument, without all the ranting and name calling silliness, it is something to consider, and if I agree, I say so.

I haven't seen a whole lot of that from most of you, however. For those who rant and rave, who use emotional arguments and name calling like a battering ram instead of actual thought, what exactly are you trying to accomplish? To change minds? That you have called the people who presumably you want to convince every name in the book certainly won't help. Or are you just trying to scream at the world?

all i see is a suitably condescending reply to a condescending response. which, i might add, wasn't even directed to you (unless that's your alt).

You're right, it wasn't directed at me, I was simply trying to point out that the replies (and questions, to be fair) that are tinged with all manner of condescension or emotional rants or name calling, well, it never seems to move conversations forward, does it?

The urge to answer snark with snark can be overpowering, but it does seem to be a major obstacle in having an actual conversation, don't you think?

Who are you trying to kid alt???

No one on the right is willing to be convinced about anything.

They have seen everything Trump has done and they still support him.

They have seen and heard multiple examples of police bias and racism and they still claim there is no systemic issues.

GTFO

So, name calling and emotional statements.

Not an alt, certainly willing to be convinced if I have a conversation that is well thought out and contains a point of view I hadn't thought of before, which I then might agree with. It has happened before.

I notice that some of Biden's reasons to vote for him are that he is not Trump. Surely that will attract a number of voters. So why do you assume that those supporting Trump are doing so for any reason other than they disagree with Biden and his policies? Cuts both ways, yes?

Is police reform needed? Certainly. No knock, red flags and civil asset forfeiture are near-criminal acts in my opinion. Some examples of civil asset forfeiture are literal examples of highway robbery.

Racism. The definition would have to be agreed upon, as I have heard science, hard work and time are racist. Also math. Though math could be considered a branch of science.

I'm happy to have a conversation with anyone, as long as they are polite. Doesn't matter which side, which ideology, whatever.
