Here's a responsible gun owner.

Really. Because you were talking about you "in 10 years" so I based my wager on that fact. It's ok, we all have our passions.

L.A. middle school shooting: Two students wounded, female student in custody

A 12-year-old girl was taken into custody after two students were shot inside a classroom at a Los Angeles middle school on Thursday, authorities said.

The gunfire wounded a 15-year-old boy, who was shot in the head and was in serious condition, and a 15-year-old girl, who was struck in the wrist and was in fair condition, the Los Angeles Fire Department said. Los Angeles County-University of Southern California Medical Center listed both as stable, saying they were expected to make full recoveries.

Three other people — a 30-year-old woman, an 11-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl — suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospitals, the fire department said.

Please, now is not the time to talk about gun control

The third in 2018? That was almost a month ago. We're up to about 15-20 now IIRC, on line for a new record.

You have the right to kill or be killed. At any age. What a country!

You're correct... because guns aren't the problem. Poverty, lack of opportunity, mental illness, and hopelessness are the problems. Whenever you want to start talking about them, I'm on board.

Poverty? They can afford guns. Lack of opportunity? These are middle school students; what sort of opportunities are they lacking?

How many kids are under the poverty line?

You do realize that poverty causes violence, right?

We do talk about that. Why are you not involving yourself?

I'm not seeing it. I see lots of knee jerk anti-gun threads and posts... not much talking about root causes of why someone engages in violence.

How many knee-jerk reactions should we have or not have before they're not "knee-jerk" reactions? It's not even a trend anymore. It's a deadly pattern that needs to be addressed at the gun-level now.

No. Guns aren't and have never been the problem.

You don't talk about Afghanistan and say "we really need to stop these IED manufactures!" do you?

No. The violence occurs because of issues that are occurring there, and because of issues occurring here. There is no such thing as "gun violence". It's just a term made up to get people worked up about banning guns.

Guns aren't the problem. If you want to talk about the problem, I've got your back. If you want to scapegoat, then you're on your own.

IEDs aren't being used to blow up schools in America so lame analogy is dismissed. There is gun violence. There is mass murder by firearms. There aren't enough controls in place to stop crazies and criminals from obtaining guns.

Um, you do know what the I means in IED, right?

I mean that Richard brings says we need to address mental health first. That's been done in almost every case of wackos murdering children with firearms. The Sandy Hook kid was a rich suburban white kid that was mentally ill. His mental illness was addressed but he still killed children with a gun.

Mmmkay.

So what do you think we can do 'addressing things at the gun level' that will stop crazy?

If it had been addressed, Sandy Hook wouldn't have happened. So no, that's not true in any way, shape, or form.

You are actually suggesting everyone gets screened for mental illness? Then what? Lock the crazy people away? Force them to take mind numbing medications?

Don't you worry about that, the benevolent state will take care of everything. ;)

Had he not been armed with a firearm, his sanity would not be a great concern. Sure, he could have slain with a knife or hatchet or explosive, although those take a bit more effort than pulling a trigger. But he would not have shot anyone.

This seems to be a hard concept: Those without firearms can't shoot people. Duh. More firearms packed ==> more people get shot. Duh. To reduce shooting deaths, reduce firearms. Duh. [tap on forehead] Anybody home?

It's not difficult. In USA, merely enforce the 2nd Amendment. You want to possess firearms in public? Join a well-regulated militia. Otherwise, be severely punished. Carry an unauthorized firearm? Public flogging and exile. Packing on a school campus? Hand amputation.

Will courts ever enforce the 2nd? Ha. Amerikkka is addicted to gunpowder (that's a metaphor). Firearms production is uncontrollable, even without 3D printers. Public possession is theoretically controllable, but really impossible.

Expect up to 200 school shootings in USA in 2018. What a country!
