Pro-Gun Activist Shot by Her 4-Year-Old Son After He Grabs Gun From Back Seat of Her Truck

Pro-gun activist and mother Jamie Gilt was accidentally shot in the back by her 4-year-old son, the Florida Times-Union reported. The accident happened after the child picked up a pistol that was lying on the back seat of Gilt’s truck.

Gilt, who runs several pro-firearms social media accounts, was driving through Jacksonville, Florida Tuesday when her son picked up a .45 semiautomatic handgun from the back seat, pointed it toward Gilt and pulled the trigger. The bullet pierced through the front seat and passed through Gilt’s body.

Before she was transported to the hospital, Gilt told deputies that her son had accidentally shot her, a claim later confirmed by Putman County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit detectives.

Wells said that after the accident Gilt’s son was reunited with other family members. The Florida Department of Children and Family Services were notified of the incident. The investigation into how the child got his hands on the pistol is ongoing.

Gilt, who officials confirmed legally owned the gun, may face criminal charges for negligence if the State Attorney’s Office rules that the accident stemmed from a failure on her part to secure the gun from the child’s reach.

Gilt runs “Jamie Gilt for Gun Sense,” where she posts pro-gun photos and articles.

Lana Rae Meisner, wife of Eagles co-founder Randy Meisner, dead in accidental shooting

Los Angeles authorities say the wife of former Eagles band member Randy Meisner was killed when a rifle she was handling accidentally discharged and shot her in the head. A police news release says officers found 63-year-old Lana Rae Meisner dead on Sunday from a single gunshot wound at the couple's home in the San Fernando Valley.

Investigators say Lana Rae Meisner lifted the rifle from a storage case when another item inside shifted and hit the trigger, causing the gun to fire. Police say Randy Meisner was co-operative throughout the investigation. Officials say police had responded to the home earlier Sunday and took a domestic violence incident report.

*No trigger lock, no safety on, a round in the chamber, a foreign object fell against trigger.
Sounds either dubious or extremely incompetent gun ownership*

Jamie Gilt, the Florida pro-gun activist who was accidentally shot and wounded by her 4-year-old son, is expected to face a misdemeanor charge of allowing a minor access to a firearm, authorities said Tuesday.

The Putnam County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday filed an affidavit with local prosecutors asking that Gilt be charged with the second-degree misdemeanor, which carries a penalty of up to 180 days in jail, Capt. Gator DeLoach told reporters.

Florida law makes it a misdemeanor for a person to store or leave a loaded firearm in such a way that a child could gain access to it.

A 5-year-old girl from LaPlace was killed Saturday (May 21) after she shot herself while playing with a handgun, the St. John the Baptist Sheriff's office said in a news release.

Deputies identified the girl as Haley Moore.

Authorities responded about 9:45 a.m. to a medical emergency at a home on Country Club Drive in LaPlace. The child was transported to a local hospital where she died.

The girl's father told deputies that she shot herself while playing with a handgun. The weapon had not been stored in a secure location, deputies said.

Trigger locks, unloaded and locked up. Gees might as well move to Canada.

An Accidental Shooting Kills A Child Every Other Day
(Four-year-old) Bryson shot himself last January with a .22-caliber Derringer his grandmother kept under the bed. It was an accident, but one that could be blamed on many factors, from his grandmother’s negligence to the failure of government and industry to find ways to prevent his death and so many others.

The Associated Press and the USA TODAY Network set out to determine just how many others there have been.

The findings: During the first six months of this year, minors died from accidental shootings — at their own hands, or at the hands of other children or adults — at a pace of one every other day, far more than limited federal statistics indicate.

Because it is the government's job to 100% prevent the gross negligence of every single idiotic citizen who drives drunk at 90 mph, lights a match to check for gas leaks or leaves loaded firearms around within reach of small children. Not to mention those "many other factors."

OOOOOkkkkaaaaaayyyyy. :rolleyes::rolleyes:

For that bogus stat to be remotely true, "minors" means anyone under the age of 26 and "accidently" includes drive-by shootings.

If the government is expected to protect fetuses from the parents who would abort them, then they should also protect toddlers from the parents who would endanger their lives with household weapons.

Firearms are sacred; they're holy objects of devotion and worship. Every firearm is g0d's tool. Every firearm death fits g0d's plan. As with highway deaths in Mexico -- if you die, it's because g0d wants you dead. Who ae we mere mortals to question g0d's will, or to decry g0d's tools and their bearers? Every bullet is automatically blessed. Especially when fired full-auto.

You have the right to kill and be killed. Exercise it wisely. Pray first.

In America, laws, prosecutors, judges, and juries serve to hold ALL irresponsible gun owners accountable for their crimes every. single. day.

Babykillers freely, intentionally, and tortuously murder almost 3,000 totally innocent and completely defenseless human lives every. single. day.

No one should ever be surprised at the ridiculous lengths a cold-blooded babykiller will go to divert the evil truth away from himself.

Please provide citation to support the idea that any death in the past 12 months was from a bullet fired on full automatic.

Pro tip: if you want to talk about guns don't get your information from watching movies. Just for your general information Hollywood movies do not accurately how guns operate and how they were actually used in real life.

If the government is expected to protect fetuses from the parents who would abort them, then they should also protect toddlers from the parents who would endanger their lives with household weapons.

There should be, and indeed IS, a relative and appropriately diminishing scale between the measures governments take to prohibit or at least restrict the intentional taking of human life and regulating activities that merely risk the accidental loss of life.

Even YOU know, understand and accept this, or you wouldn't be allowed to drive a car.

But I'll play along just this once. In your idealized world, what is/are the appropriate step(s) government should takes to "protect toddlers from parents who would endanger their lives with household weapons."

Say it. And then justify it in context with all the other risks children run -- at school, home, playgrounds, amusement parks, as passengers on public and private transportation, organized sports, etc. Should children themselves be allowed to legally hunt or target shoot under the supervision of a qualified adult?

Make your case.

Make guns so that they can't be simply picked up and fired by anyone with a finger.
