Here's a responsible gun owner.

I am sure that all the neighborhood kids are well aware of the danger in handling the loaded weapon that the stupid gun owner left on his front stoop. And they let all the visiting kids know about him, too. And we make sure that the toddlers know all about the dangers of guns as soon as they're old enough to finger a trigger.

Thank you for finaly agreeing.
Given the country you live in and the guns laws there and the prevalence of stupid people, gun safety and the dangers should be taught in kindergarten

You been harping for years about the dangers but not once have you thought to maybe teach the kids not to touch the damned things

Actually, I think a better plan would be to require a 16 week class, have a home safety check, mandatory insurance, and approval of a permit after an intensive and comprehensive background check. But only to those persons above 25 years of age who can show an actual need.

Without those things, you just aren't adult enough to be a parent.

Hmm. Maybe you should have a chat with Ishmael about the importance of maintaining a high fertility rate.

No need. I take drugs for that. It's fun.

You, on the other hand, should think about a way to have twins or triplets. That way after you lose one or two, you still have a spare.

See, that pesky 2nd amendment thing keeps getting in the way, so, if you can't lick em, join em.
Educate the kids

Plus thats a really stupid idea

Hard to tell seeing as that's about as pro-gun as most of the lefties on this board are.

It's the fault of reading vs hearing. Even adding in icons doesn't help sometimes because facial expressions/body language are also part of our understanding of what's being said.

PERMISSION? It's called the Second Amendment. We don't NEED no stinkin' permission to own a gun.

That is not the case in every country, and a discussion of responsible gun ownership is not limited to Americans.

Then there's the whole insurance thing...why? Do you need insurance to go to church?

No, but the church does, because it might burn down. And if you have something in your house that might kill a member of the family -- which statistically it is much more likely to do than kill a home invader -- life insurance is a very good idea.

I understand that. However, in America guns are part of our culture and we have a Constitutional guarantee. In a lot of other countries guns are banned so discussion is "stupid gun owners" is irrelevant because there aren't any. Thus, the implied subject of the thread attaches to America.

Nice deflection. Dumb, but well executed. I have to take some responsibility for it though because my wording was partially at fault. What I should have said was that you don't need insurance to worship.

The fact that you deflected, and the failure of phrodeau to understand anything except the emotional aspect of the subject, points out the continuing misunderstanding of what our Rights under our Constitution really mean.

Our Rights aren't "given" to us. The Rights enumerated in our Constitution are limitations on government. Thus, there cannot be an requirement for training, insurance, storage, etc unless those things also apply to other Rights such as the right to worship or speak or reproduce (or not) and so on.

Pure nonsense and a gross conceptual error of understanding how the Constitution was formed.

Our Rights aren't "given" to us. The Rights enumerated in our Constitution are limitations on government.

But, N.B.: They have no preconstitutional or extraconstitutional existence. They come from the Constitution alone, not God or Nature.

The right to bear arms was fine for a long time, but now we're facing a gun abuse crisis. The time has come to change the 2nd Amendment, because the crisis will only get worse.

There is no crisis.

And there is no reason to change 2A.

Liberals...all so worried about protecting everybody else, no matter the cost

I noticed that, too. You didn't do any research for your post, did you?

I've done plenty.

That's why I don't make hysterical emotional based "arguments" (claims and aimless assumptions) on the topic like you do.

"Ban the scary looking stuff because scary looks = more dangerous!!...fuck facts!! Feelings are basically the same thing "

LOL
