Here Comes 2008

So recently I started watching TV again and I have just discovered that my cable company has LOGO, a gay and lesbian channel, whcich totally rocks!

It seems every other commercial is related to some mirace weight loss aid. More so than on other channels. I'm kinda curious to see if it is just a New Year Resolution" thing like other channels or an ongoing thing.

Just an observation.

Also wondering....

I know that there was a thread concerning weight loss n the AH.

Just wondering if folks may be interestered in a little competition.

About 15 years ago, the company that I worked for used to sponsor a weight loss contest just after New Years that ran till Valentines Day.

It was based upon percent weight loss of every individual, so it was even ground for sll that participated.

Any takers?

Is resolving to lose weight when its already coming off due to finally being on the right medication cheating?

What medication? :confused:I've just cut down on starch and junk food, and started getting more exercise.

I don't think it's possible to cheat on resolutions any more than it's possible to cheat in Solitaire or masturbation. :cool:

I resolve only, as always, to try to make things better wherever I go.

I don't make resolutions, but I'm committed to this ideal. So many people have helped me get past where I was, I have to give back. I have to make the world a better and healthier place.

Peace to your journey in 2008, cantdog and all my other AH friends. :rose:

No resolutions but some plans.

I'm planning on getting my place to where I want it within the next year, I'm almost halfway there.

I plan on diving more. I've been too dry for too long.

I plan on getting a bike. (I'm looking at one tomorrow.)

I plan on enjoying life a lot more than I have been. If that eans going against the local social mores so be it.

Thanks carson. :)

Box - basically its hormone medication. PCOS means I have too much testosterone and makes it very difficult to lose excess weight.

That's a good example to follow. I still haven't met all my resolutions from 565BC.

No wonder. That was one helluva busy year if I remember right. Ezekiel was being such a nuisance and Nebuchadrezzar's health was starting to go. Egypt conquring Cyprus was very stressful, especially with your investment there. Of course, the whole Jerusalem thing was just too sad, not to mention being very bad for business.

What got me down was the cynical attitude of the Mesopotamians... and here we are two and half millenia later and they are still causing trouble... sorry, I'm Babbling on.

No resolutions other that to do the same around this time in 2008.

This year, I do my cross-country road trip: Hamilton, Ontario-- Port Huron-- UP Michigan-- the badlands of SD-- Montana-- Lolo Pass-- Olympia and Seattle-- the PC Highway-- Bryce Canyon-- KS-- KY-- the Blue Ridge Parkway and Outer Banks in NC-- a bit of Virginia-- then up the coast to home. No Interstates, no night driving. I resolve only, as always, to try to make things better wherever I go.

Hey Handsome, on your way from Hamilton to Pt Huron, stop on by, you will most likely be driving right past my front door!

Please, please, make it a safe and adventurous journey!

My resolutions:

Less negative thinking, speaking and doing.
More positive thinking, speaking and doing.
Less eating
More exercise
Less swearing
More praise
Less spending
More saving

GET A FRIGGING JOB that's 40 hours a week- It isnt Jan 1st yet!

C- good luck to everyone!:kiss:

It didn't help that I had already been dead for 1,500 years in 565BC.

I didn't make any resolutions for 564BC.

I'm going to take better care of my teeth. That's what I'm going to do...

I don't really have a resolution per se, I just plan to keep going with my current goals. I started working out, eating better and lost almost 37 pounds in 2007, so my goal is to lose more weight, stay healthy and intensify my workout. I have a specific sized wedding dress in mind. ;)

Lit. related: Use alts more often. Poetry alt and crazy alt.

RL related: write more and submit to paying areas.

I don't do resolutions as such, but I give every year its own mantra.

2007 was the year of "pushing the boundaries"
2008 will be the year of "doing it in style"

:cool:

Looking at my 2007 goals:

Financial goals --> 70%
Personal goals --> 50%
Educational goals --> 20%
Career Goals --> 90%
Writing Goals --> 40% (50% if I get the next story out to the editors before tuesday).

I think writing them down formally does help me so I'll do it again.

Probably the same

Financial --> Zero CC debt and drop 20% of my pay into savings.
(No purchasing goals this year so it should make it easier).

Personal --> Lose 20lbs and keep them off.

Educational --> Work through at least 50% of the computer books I've bought.

Writing --> The DOOZY
Finish 'A Master's Ring'
Finish 'Achilles and Hephaestus'
Begin and Finish my latest installment to the Guitar Series

Career --> DBA position move with at least a 20% jump in pay.

(And now that I made them so public, I'm actually going to have to work on them more!)

One, do some serious traveling for the first time in years.
That's IT!

I don't know about a resolution, but it's definitely a goal. Actually, I'm traveling more than ever due to work, and that bids fair to increase substantially in the next year, but that's not what I mean. I mean travel to beautiful places, see the sights, and eat wonderful foods.

The notion struck me this past year. Every time I see some travel show, naturally I think I would like to go there some day. Then it struck me: This is "some day." I'm still not too old to enjoy it, can afford it (within reason), and am at a point in my career where I can set my own schedule (within certain job-related contraints).

The only thing holding me back is the availability of a simpatico traveling companion in similar circumstances. Someone who, when I see a travelogue about the Cyclades in the Agean or the fire festival in Barcelona, for example, I can call and say, "Let's go!" and the response will be, "OK."

I only have one resolution per year, and it's the same one:

Some where, some how, some way, I'm going to achieve the impossible. I don't know where it comes from, but I'm going to pull something out of my ass that shouldn't succeed in anyone's wildest imagination and get away with it.

Did it three times in 2007, one of them televised nationally (if you have cable or satellite). No it hasn't aired yet. And, no, I ain't telling.

Adrenaline is my drug of choice.

:D

I'm going to bore you guys again, but if you can stand it, bear with me.

That's exactly what precipitated the cross country road trip. I had already tried it once, and we were rear-ended in Syracuse, New York. The car was totaled, and the trip scrubbed. It actually turned out well for Justin, the fellow I was doing the trip with, but I was just sent home, and no particular benefit accrued.

Years passed. My wife and I were reviewing life insurances, retirement accounts, and stuff of that nature. She turned to me and asked, "What will you do, if I die?"

I think she was expecting some answer having to do with busty brunettes. She always said I would remarry, and that I would choose a brunette this time, a buxom one. She, by contrast, always said she would never remarry if I died. For the record? She's wrong. I never got the big tit thing. Brunette, yes. Buxom, probably not. :)

But I said, "No question. I'd go on that cross country trip."

Two weeks later, she approached me, interrupting what I was doing, of course, but hey, wives do that. She said she didn't see why I would have to wait 'til she was dead. "Let's take four weeks this coming May, and drive to the Pacific and back."

Not resolutions, just things I want to do:

Watch the sun come up over the ocean on the east coast, then watch that same sun set over the water on the west coast.

Send three gifts to friends I only know online just to make them smile.

10 Random acts of kindness and senseless beauty.

One long hot deep kiss that makes her leg pop up.

Meet three people (or more) from Lit.

Cool.

I've always had a notion to take an RV and follow the fall color season, from the Canadian Rockies to the U.P. and New England, south to the Adirondacks, then the Appalachians, or something like that. This would be a post-retirement thing, though. For now I'm contemplating one-two week out-and-backs.

What a romantic idea. I hope you get to do it, even though I would never wish an RV on my worst enemy.
