Hey All,

I bought this weight loss pill called NuBody NuLife that contains Citrimax. It has no Ephedra in it, but I was wondering if anybody knows if this is a safe product to use. I searched on the Web, but it always ends up with research from the company that produced it. I have not taken any OTC diet supplement/aids before.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Here is what I could find at a couple fitness sites.

Citrimax is a competitive inhibitor of citrate lyase. Citrate lyase is the enzyme that breaks down citrate and is the first step in making fat from carbohydrate. Key word is competitive. While it may work in the very short term, so much citrate accumulates that it overcomes the Citrimax and the process of making fat from carbs continues. Citrimax was looked into in the 60's by a major drug company as an obesity treatment.

You can try looking up hydroxycitric acid, that is the active ingrediant. Citrimax is the name brand.

Good luck.

Be wary...Citrimax and other supplements with hydroxy citric acid are an adjunct to weight loss...read the disclaimer...."if used with an effective weight loss and exercise program....thats where they get you....it will do nothing on its own but if you exercise and diet properly you MAY gain results...check medical journals for the stats versus a placebo...this in my opinion is the real proof whether something works

if a person claiming to be a doctor is promoting the product be wary...they are paid to do that...hell they may not even be a medical doctor...they may have a PhD in algebra...but doctor does look nice in front of the ad...lol

ephedra is a good product but it is not without risk or side effects...another name for ephedra is mau haung from which ephedra is derived...ephedrine is the drug that is made and is available also....

read the lable to your research and then decide whether to buy the product...trust me...most "sports suplements" are nothing more than snake oil peddled by high priced salesmen...some of the more worthy ones I have used are:

Designer Protein
Creatine
mau haung ( please be careful with this one)
Chromium Picolinate
7 Keto DHEA (dehydro epiandosterone)

hope this helps out:D

Thank You, Christophe.

I was thinking about bringing them back anyway. Anything that I have seen advertised in the back of women's magazines seems to be "snake oil" to me.

It is just that I may be travelling to the land of the tanned, toned people soon and after a cold Canadian winter, I am feeling pasty and kind of chunky. It is better than being sickly though huh!!

I guess that I will have to really kick it at the gym for the next two weeks. See, I knew that somebody here would be able to give me a valid opinion. Thanks again.
