Susan had just finished her third glass of wine, and she realized she was getting dizzy. She had never been much of a drinker, and she had skipped lunch, so she could eat at the Christmas party. The trouble was that by the time the party started, she wasn't hungry. One good thing about the divorce was that she was losing weight, since she never seemed to have much of an appetite anymore. She was 5'4" and was nicely curvy with her blonde hair in a sensible ponytail.
She excused herself and went to the ladies room, walking carefully so she wouldn't make a fool of herself in front of everyone. She was dressed for work, still, in a grey skirt and cream blouse. It was the office Christmas party, after all, and she had worn pretty red lingerie under her clothes. This morning, it had seemed like a fun little secret to have, but now, it just reminded her that there was no one who was going to see it and be excited by it.
She touched up her make up, and then left the bathroom when two of the girls from the front office came in, buzzing with gossip. She wasn't ready to face the room full of people pretending to like one another, so she went to the back. The conference room was empty, and she sat on the big glass table and lay back, looking up at the ceiling. She had drunk three glasses of wine to pass the time until she could leave, and now that it was almost time, she realized she would have to wait. She was in no state to drive.
