Her Savior- Closed

"Thanks for coming with me... I'll be honest... Inviting you to dinner was kind of a spur of the moment thing for me... I hasn't planned it at all."

"It is my pleasure and especially after acting like a complete and total ass to you that first day you came to see me. But that's not the only reason lets just say you intrigue me."

They sat in one of the booths Ross had imagined and the lights were low however Ross was never sure if it was by romantic design though this mom and pop establishment did not ooze of tender romance or moonlight kisses. It was probably because the owner was so damn cheap he did not want to pay for that many bright lights. The one thing he didn't skimp on was the food and Ross was starving.

He perused the menu as she asked about his marital status. "Yes I'm married but we have no children. My wife is not the mothering type. In fact she isn't really wife type either at least not now. Lets just say there is more affection between room mates than between the two us. I'm not talking bad about her as she is a good person. She is out of town at the moment which is her norm and don't worry she could care less if you and I share dinner, a movie and then travel to Alaska." He paused then added "the Alaska statement was a joke sort of as long as I'm out of hair all is well. Enough about my marriage woes you are don't want to hear that I'm sure."

He wondered if she had any idea of how much time he spent alone and how long it had been since anyone especially a female had been inside his truck?"So do you see anything good on the menu?"

Reagan frowned slightly at his statement. It sounded like they both had their share of marital problems.

"Actually im leaning towards chicken fried steak... I haven't had that in forever... My husband doesn't appreciate home made food like this... He prefers fine dining." she rolled her eyes slightly as she said this. It was obvious she wasn't a fan. "My husband and I have extremely different tastes."

The waitress came and took their drink orders, promising to come right back.

"Do you enjoy your job?" She asked quietly. "I guess you see some pretty horrific stuff..." She shuddered slightly. "I don't do well with blood... Especially my own."

She thought about how messed up her car was... How lucky she was to be alive. A clouded look came over her face until she glanced up at him and smiled. "You probably have people thanking you a lot... Huh?"

Reagan appeared slightly put off by his marriage issues but he wasn't lying to her anymore he had already gone down that rode and whether or not he ever saw again he would try to be honest.

She also seemed to have some issues at home as well but would not ask if she didn't offer the information.

Ross opted for the fried Catfish platter and ordered a coffee to go along with it.

"Do I enjoy my job?" Ross thought for a second, "Well it is like any other job things you like things you hate. A lot of sitting around bored waiting filled with a few moments of intense chaos where you are expected to be the beacon of calm. But yes for the most part I do. I hate seeing people hurt or sick but its nice when you can help them during those moments. There are more appreciative ones than others from psychiatric and drunks who aren't so happy to see you."

"So Reagan what do you do for fun?" The waitress arrived with their food and set it before them.

Reagan listened to his account of his job and nodded. His job probably had a lot of emotional ups and downs. There meals arrived and he asked what she did for fun. This made her laugh a little sarcastically.

"It's not often I'm able to do something I consider fun .. I always have to be planning Jeremy's next dinner party or doing some charity event that week help with his publicity... But when I do have time I like to read... Ride horses... I used to barrel race but Jeremy said that wasn't a good pastime for a "millionaire's wife so I quit... I also like to do outside lawn and garden work even though we have gardeners... I just enjoy it" she shrugged.

"What about you? When you're not working what do you enjoy?"

Ross was quite surprised that the little rich girl was such an outdoors sort of woman and he found himself re accessing his thoughts of her as she talked.

"Well, I have a few horses and really enjoy riding myself really anything outdoors as I hate being cooped up inside of to long. Perhaps I you might want to see my little slice of heaven some time."

Ross wasn't sure why he had even said the last part as he was certain she would say, "sure we should do that" with no intentions of ever actually doing so.

The rest of the meal arrived and conversation was easy enough with her laughing a lot which Ross found refreshing and fun. Their plates was mostly empty and they had been sitting there for way to long as the waitress kept giving them dirty looks. A few people were waiting for tables,

"Looks like we have over stayed our welcome you want to get out of here?"

Reagan was thrilled to hear that Ross had horses as well. So far she was liking everything about the man before her... Which shouldn't matter. She was just out to thank him for his help the other week. It didn't matter if she liked him. Or at least.... It shouldn't.

"I would love to see your place someday," she said, sincerity radiating from her eyes as she spoke. The conversation flowed so smoothly in no time that were done eating and being all but pushed out the door.

She was upset the evening seemed to be coming to an end. She had been enjoying herself so much for the first time in years.

"I guess we do need to go... Its been an awesome evening though... I had no idea that we would have so much in common when I invited you..." She hesitated before saying what she said next. "I'm kind of disappointedb that it's coming to an end" she gave him a sheepish smile and shrugged.

Ross held the door for her on the way out sneaking a quick peek at her cute butt as she walked in front of him. They stepped out into the parking lot and a full moon with a slight crispness to the air.

"Look I don't wont to over step things here but if you have nothing else to do I'm really not ready to go home. I was hoping we might go somewhere and well do whatever you would like to do?"

The entire statement sort of came out like a bashful teenager asking a girl out and doing a poor job of it. Ross forced his head up from the ground to look her in the eyes just hoping that she would give him a chance but not expecting her to do so.

Reagan was surprised when Ross offered for them to do something else. He was married... so was she. But if he didn't care about being seen with her then why should she?

Because Jeremy would freak out...

But she was just thanking him for saving her life. Something Jeremy didn't seem to care too much about anyway... And what were the chances of anyone seeing her and him together anyway? Anyone Jeremy knew at least.. SLim to none. They were all to busy at their hoighty toighty country club to go somewhere like this... Which gave her an idea.

"Can you take me to see your horses?" She asked with a bright smile. The thought of being around animals was relaxing to her and she thought they would both probably thoroughly enjoy it... maybe he would even let her ride for a few minutes since she didn't get to do it nearly enough for her liking anymore.

"Can you take me to see your horses?"

Ross was rather surprised she wanted to see the horses or actually that she wanted to spend any more time with him at all. It wasn't like his wife was at home waiting on him or anything so sure why not.

"I would be glad to would you care to ride with me or follow?" He hoped that she would chose to ride with him for some reason though honestly he didn't know why.

She beamed when Ross agreed to her question. She would get to go visit his horses. He asked if she wanted to ride with him or drive herself and she thought for a moment.

"I'll ride with you if you don't mind?" She said with a smile. She wanted as much time with this man as possible. He was kind, caring, funny... and sexy. Who WOULDNT want more time with him?

Together they walked towards his truck. "I don't get to ride nearly as much as I'd like... Did you know that its "not a proper pastime for women?" Her voice was laced with sarcasm as she spoke.

When Ross heard her say, "I'll ride with you if you don't mind?" he was no longer surprised by this woman but pleased. Her interest in him was still a point of contention that he was yet to figure out. But it was better than the total lack of interest his wife showed him.

"I don't mind at all here let me get the door for you." He opened the door as she climbed into his truck and Ross sped around to the drivers side.

He jumped in and turned the engine over bringing it to life. Pulling out of the parking lot he headed towards home driving slowly and carefully. He turned on the radio station and country music streamed from his speakers.

As Ross turned on the radio he couldn't help but notice her yellow sun dress had slipped up showing part of her tan thigh. His eyes lingered there as their outline was reflected in the glow of instrument lights and oncoming headlights.

He then glanced up towards her face but once more his eyes lingered on her not huge but ample bosom. When he finally got to her face she had caught him for sure. "Oh shit", he thought.

Riley enjoyed the music that Ross put on as they drove towards his house. She tapped her foot along to the beat as they drove. Eventually she glanced his way and noticed he was looking at her legs... And her chest. She then made eye contact with him and felt her cheeks best up and turn pink.

"Um.. So .. How many horses do you have?" She asked casually. She was married. HE was married. This attraction was not a good thing at all. She shouldn't feel this way about any man let alone one who war married. She tried to redirect her mind.

"You sure your wife won't mind me coming here? Is probably a bit unconventional..."

"Well I have only two right now as I just don't have time for more one was to be for my wife but she no longer has much desire to be involved with them. But that's alright as I truly enjoy every aspect of having horses."

He looked back over at her she certainly seemed a bit nervous and he had to admit his pulse was a bit higher than normal.

"My wife", he said with a laugh, "My wife could care less she isn't home will not be back till hell I don't know when. She is off with her friends shopping or gambling or some damn thing. She has no issues with you seeing the horses I assure you so no worries."

Ross turned off the two lane black top and down a gravel road which led to the house. He pulled in front of the unattached garage, stopped and turned the engine off.

"So you want to go see them tonight though I left them out in the pasture so we will have to track them down. I don't mind or we could sit on the porch swing and chat your call."

Riley wondered briefly about why he didn't seem to care a bit about where his wife was. It reminded her of how she felt about Jeremy, but she didn't have the right to ask so she kept her mouth closed.

When he parked in front of the garage he asked if she would rather find the horses or just hang out and chat.

"How bout we go talk for a bit and then go find them?" She asked with a slightly hesitant, but eager smile. She truly felt an attraction to this man and couldn't begin to guess why. She wanted to know more about him.

She slid out if the truck then, and joined him by the tailgate to head towards the house and the porch swing like he had suggested. She sat down on one side and he on the other.

"So..." She began awkwardly. "Have you always lived around here?"

As they sat on the porch swing the partial moon lighting the pasture Ross remembered a different time. A time when he and his wife would sit hear sipping coffee but that had been years ago and she honestly was no longer that woman.

"Well, pretty much I grew up two counties over and lived on a medium size farm. After I became an adult and married I wanted property and it was way to expensive there so I found this place here. It was a good price and I built this house mostly myself. We lived in a RV for over a year which sat just over there by the barn."

Ross looked around, "Its not much but it is my own little slice of heaven even if my wife hates it. She would prefer that we sell and move to some condo or garden home closer to the city. The property values have gone up drastically and I could make a nice little profit but I couldn't live in the city."

He looked over at Reagan and he wondered why she was here? This had gone way beyond thanking him for taking care of her after the wreck. He doubted she was interested in him as she was beautiful and probably very well off. Sure there were some issues with her marriage but if she was looking for male company she had the looks and body to have almost any guy she wanted.

He shifted a bit on the swing placing an arm over the back of it his fingers lightly brushed her hair and shoulder. He pulled them back when he realized it not wanting to give her the wrong idea.

"So what about you? How long have you lived in town?"

Reagan was beginning to like Ross more and more. His interests and hers seemed to match pretty closely and it was nice to be doing someone like that. He was easy going and laid back, funny and smart... And gorgeous...

When his hand brushed her shoulder and hair she could have melted into a puddle then and there. He had that effect on her. But she managed to rein herself in. So instead of leaning into his accidental touch like she wanted to she focused on his question.

"I have lived here since I married Jeremy... Before then I lived in a small town on the other side of the state. Very much like the rural areas around here. We live a little closer to the city than this... Unfortunately. He is a businessman and plays golf religiously every week... And he pays the bills... So we live where he wants" she frowned. "I'd kill to live out here... My horses barely get ridden by me anymore. He says it isn't respectable" she snorted. "Like everything he does is perfectly fine".

Ross listened to Reagan talk about her husband and the two didn't seem to have anything in common.

"Well I'm sorry you guys don't see eye to eye as I think you make the perfect wife. I don't want to make you feel uncomfortable but you are a beautiful lady but you enjoy the outdoors and don't go around like you are made of glass. That is meant as a compliment, the glass thing I mean."

He said this with a little chuckle as he watched her intently.

He felt a bit of tenseness in the air and suddenly the full moon came out from behind the clouds bathing the back yard and pasture beyond in moon light. It was a romantic setting anyone could see that and the moon just seemed to bring out that raw emotion of passion even when two people that were practically strangers and married shared it.

"That's a picture if I ever saw one", Ross exclaimed. He stood walking to the railing at the edge of the porch to look up at the large glowing orb that was low in the sky.

Reagan listened as Ross complimented her and geeky herself blush. Was he hitting on her? Did she want him to? Maybe was the answer to both of those questions. She knew she SHOULDN'T want him to hit on her. But she did.

And then the moon broke free and all breath left her lungs. The sight of that beautiful scenery... and then Ross standing before it... was the most magnificent thing she had ever beheld.

Reagan stood herself and walked to stand beside him. Her shoulder pressed against his blatantly, a friend touch, but not overly intimate.

"This place is gorgeous, Ross... You're a lucky man to live here... Can we... Uh... Go find the horses? I really want to see them..." She gave him a hesitant smile, the moonlight shining down brightly upon her and him, highlighting them to each other.

Standing there beside Reagan with her shoulder slightly touching his lit a small fire within Ross's mind and body. The scene before them, her smell, and now her very small touch made him want her. He had never cheated on his wife though he wasn't so sure that his wife had never cheated on him.

Even if he wanted to cheat there was two problems with what he was thinking right now. First he still couldn't get it through his skull that she found him desirable and secondly she was married as well.

The suggestion of finding the horses broke the short spell and he agreed leading he off the porch. They approached a gate and Ross opened it then closed it after Reagan had stepped through.

"They usually bed down at night near the first corner in the back of the field. There is a small grove of tree's and they seem to like it there."

Ross lead the way and the moon provided more than enough light to navigate the field. As they neared the little clump of Oak tree's Ross had referred to they heard a snort. "There you are Spur did we wake you?" A scuffling noise could be heard and a large dark form rose from the grassy ground. "There you are Diamond and no I don't have breakfast." Ross said this last pat with a slight laugh as the two horses moved to greet them.

Ross gave a quick introduction for Reagan as Diamond walked over to her sniffing loudly.

Reagan followed along behind Ross as they made their way across the pasture. She avoided several areas which looked like they had piles of rocks... Or more likely something much more unpleasant.

Pretty soon she heard the unmistakable sound of a horse snorting and another clambering to its feet. She watched with a broad smile as Ross greeted the animals that he obviously adored. Then the horse named diamond approached her and she stuck out her hand for the horse to snuffle. That was met by a nudge, the horse wanting a scratch behind the ears.

Reagan smiled and obliged the silent plea.

"They're beautiful" she told Ross. 'My guess is they're spoiled rotten?" She said grinning broadly.

It was obvious she adored horses as she scratched and patted them, speaking to them like humans and interacting with them like she was used to it- and she obviously was.

"I'd love to ride sometime with you" she said and then bit her tongue. She hadn't meant to blurt that out...

"I would love to take you riding sometime just let me know when."

Ross considered suggesting it tonight as the moon was full but the horses would be pissed and well she wasn't dressed for riding.

He would have loved for her to ride double with him. He imagined her sitting behind him her legs against his and her chest pressed against his back. The thought lit a small fire where desire springs forth and it was definitely getting hot there.

Ross walked over to Reagan as she scratched one of the horses and began petting him as well. Their hands touched several times and the third time he left it there touching her own almost on top of her hand but not quite covering it. He looked over at Reagan as they stood almost shoulder to shoulder with the moonlight spilling across her face.

The light ways their hands kept brushing were teasing glances, making Reagan want more. And then finally Ross seemed to succumb and his hand partially covered hers. Reagan's own hand stilled, and she looked over at Ross with a hesitant smile.

"I don't want either of us to do anything we will regret in the end... but I'll be honest Ross" she said. "I haven't felt this attracted to a person in a very long time. Maybe ever. I know we are both married but this just feels.. right".

And she meant every word. Her eyes spoke of the truth as she stared up at him, innocent desire waging war with feelings of guilt.

Ross wanted to take her in his arms and kiss her deeply to feel her body pressing against his own. He had no guilt really concerning his wife as he was certain she had not always been faithful. In fact she was probably in bed with some guy right now if the truth was known.

No his concern was for Reagan and her marriage though he got the sense it wasn't in much better shape than his own.

Ross turned his hand palm up gripping hers in his noticing for the first time how small her hands were compared to his own. How soft compared to his rugged and calloused hands.

He placed his other hand on her shoulder and stepped closer, "Reagan you are a beautiful woman I knew the night I picked you up you were attractive but only in a generalized way as you were my patient. Then that first day in the parking lot I truly noticed how beautiful you were. Honestly you must have guys falling over you so I have no idea what you see in me but I'm not complaining."

Ross paused when he realized that he had leaned his head a couple inches closer to her almost involuntarily.

"Reagan you have no idea how badly I want to kiss you right now."

Reagan stared up into Ross's eyes. His hand was on her shoulder, caressing her gently and making her want him all the more. She took a deep breath. Then he said he wanted to kiss her badly. A very slow, sensuous smile crossed her beautiful face.

"Then what are you waiting for, cowboy?" she said quietly, almost in a whisper. She then leaned forward until their lips were a mere inch apart, pausing to allow him a chance to close the remaining distance.

She knew he was married and didn't want to push him into something he didn't want. At this point in time she honestly didn't care about what she was doing to her own marriage. Deep inside, she knew it was over... she just hadn't admitted it to herself of him yet.

"Then what are you waiting for, cowboy?"

Her lips were near his only an inch and he closed the distance. His lips touched hers and he pressed into them. His hand moved from her shoulder to the back of her head as he pulled her lip between his own holding it there.

Any thoughts or concerns of what they were doing was quickly vanishing and he relished the feel of her full lips upon his own. He broke the kiss for only a second before kissing her a second time but this time with more urgency and since of abandon. A flame grew deep within him one that he had thought long ago extinguished but had re-ignited from that day in the parking lot.
