Okay, as most of you know I do some co-operative writing at another site, and we're currently discussing the boundaries for erotica. Some of our authors tend to get... flowery. Like saying "manliness" "maleness" ect. Others are a little *too* graphic.

We need words for penis that don't sound like they belong in a tacky romance people! Preferably ones we can give an R rating.

If you are looking for a middle ground between the rather crude slang (dick) and the flowery (manliness) I think Cock is the best word.

Prick, is a favorite of the victorians, yet has gained some useage in a rougher more vulgar and graphic sense.

Obviously, this isn't a quandry I too often face

One of my women's magazines (we're talking Woman's Day, Family Circle) has a novel excerpt that includes a sex scene. She touches his erection. If it's good enough for mainstream consumer magazines and paperback novels (it wasn't a romance novel either btw), it shouldn't be out of bounds for erotica.
