I've got a problem with my cat. He's 6, and in good health.

Trouble is, he's been peeing on our bed, same spot each time. He has not gone out of his litterbox otherwise. He's done this about once a month for about 6 months, which is about the time our other cat died.

I've had one suggestion that he fears my wife, whose spot he's peeing on, will leave like the cat (due to her odd work schedule) and not return? We've added nothing new that could be traumatic, not changed food or litter, nothing. He's drinking fine, I don't know what to do next. I know seeing the vet is a logical next step, but he'll rule out medical causes and then what? He'll tell me to post something on the net cause there's a lot of cat freaks out here... ;)

Any suggestions?

Well, I have noticed our cats have done MUCH better after one dies if another is brought into the mix. Yes, there will always be that trauma during the intro stage...but a new buddy can really help a cat get over the loss of their companion.

Is your wife's work schedule different than before? My guess would be if it's the same then that's not really the problem...

It definately sounds like he's trying to tell you something...good luck figuring out what.

I'd take the cat to the vet for a check-up first thing to make sure everything's cool. Tell the problem to the vet. Even if there's nothing medically wrong with the cat, the vet may have some ideas on how to help.

My cats have only ever peed outside the box when they were ill. Both male cats have had crystals in their urine. The first time my cat peed on the kitchen floor, he as at the vet within the hour because I knew something was wrong.

Sorry I can't help with the bed pee problem.

On very rare occasion my cat(s the second passed away) have only done stuff like this when they want attention of some sort.

It could be as simple as changing your cats food...it could be maybe your cat misses the mrs. or the other cat and is trying to leave a "spot" for her to come back to. Aged and housebroken cats don't do this unless they are upset and looking fo attention (I've noticed men behave the same way).

Theres a "cat away" spray that might help located at your local pet store. I'd get some and spray it where your cat sprays and be prepared to break him/her of the habit. It might sound harsh but it might be the attetion the kitty needs.Your wife paying some attention to the kitty above and beyond the norm might help too.

Plus what Laurel said.
