Okay, felt bad making a thread just for one easy question. so thought it would be fun to make a general out of it.

Basically it's all about helping people come up with a spicy title, because after all that's one of the most important things in getting a click.

My Story-
Incest themed, mother/son pairing

A mom and son are just hanging out at home one day when in the mail they receive a package from their globe trotting relative (probably grandparents or uncle) it's a pot from a Mayan ruin. They inspect the card and read the description given to them about how it was used in war times as a fertility blessing to replenish the tribe after a lot were killed in a war. Mom comments on how beautifle it looks and asks son to put it on the top shelf for her. He does and then drops it it shatters and lets out a sweet smelling cloud of dust that the mom and son inhale.

They start to get hot and heavy and eventually get down to business. it also triggers ovulation in the mom and she begs to be made pregnant.

What I want from the title-
It needs to be made clear that its a mom/son story
Something to let them know it has a certain magical element too it to make it more interesting
If possible something that also mentions it involves impregnation

The best I've come up with is "The Mother Son Fertility Ritual"

I should probably keep my mouth shut as I have no specific title I think would best your current one. I do, however, want to offer an opinion if I may.

I get that many want to low hang the fruit for the masses with the title but I find this ULTRA overdone to the point of it now being a peeve.

Generic titles "A day in the woods." are everywhere closely followed by adding in the participants right after. "Moms day in the woods." I really believe it is a case of some apples spoiling the whole bunch.

Am I alone in reading the descriptions that are RIGHT after the title? I read tags too but Ill agree the masses will never get that far.

I guess I wonder why people don't leave themselves the flexibility of a more mysterious title. Description and tags can bring in or keep out those not down with the subject matter.

And unless you force yourself to fall high in the search listings "Mom and Son" wont gain you much if anything yet stifle your options.

Sorry if I sound ranting. I just get sad when I see an otherwise amazing work with a run of the mill title (unless you favorite it, you aren't likely to remember say the two leads names or mom and son "blah blah blah blah")

Sorry Spike. Please don't see this a picking on you. As I said, Ive got nothing better yet but I offer my thoughts.

"Mother Son Fertility Ritual" leads me to think that the Mayans in question used this to get moms impregnated by their sons as well. If this is an angle you are working in story (some "great new discovery about Mayan love and culture" I think it works but Id probably still go for more nuance.

If it was just a normal couples fertility ritual that happens to snag a mother and son, Id rework it.

I will be the first to admit Im particular but maybe some of what I said can help (you dont have to go as nutty as me, just farther than the masses :)

Thought of some more but with dropping the mystical element

"Mommy Needs to Breed"
"Mom Needs to Breed"
"Mother Needs to Breed"
"Mom Needs your Seed"

I never really liked mommy but do most people think its hot

Oh bad stella you are so better at this.

Anyway since you are stuck with me and him, I rather think he's worse but well I'm probably wrong. Anyway drop the mom and breed stuff. That's corny and overselling. I mean it's going in incest category anyway, you can name it anything you want and people will know it's family members fucking.

So right off the top of my head I've got:

fertility rite, accident
clumsy son (I'd use this if I was writing this one but I always do first person female)
gift gone wrong
fun out of broken pottery

Looking back at them honestly I like the last one best. Doesn't tell you what the story is about but gives you a nice segway to the description where you can give a hint. Not that it matters, it being an incest story it will get readers.
