People, I've got a problem. Ever since NaNoWriMo in November, I haven't been able to write a single word of prose. And it's frustrating, because I feel like it would be really fun to do it. It would be great to start letting those words out, and post them for the world to see.

I know that I could flog myself into the routine again. But motivation to write is not something that i can just flip a switch for. Building motivation to write is as hard work as the actual writing. And for some reason, I can't be arsed.

(let's see if i get it right here)

I want to want to have motivation and drive enough to get into writing again.

How can I motivate myself to motivate myself?

Can someone pass the bong, please?

For me, it came with accepting a challenge. To a lesser degree, I can get motivated for contests or chain story deadlines.

What's your prose kink? I'll be happy to challenge you to a certain scenario. A triple dog dare, if you will. ;)

snicker, he said flog

being sophmoric... sorry

i dunno, babe...im in a bit of the same boat. i have some ideas for a story but the damn words wont come. i want to write. i need to write but i feel like im in a vast neverland of nothing-to-write-itis.
is it catching?
what can i take to ward off this illness?
ah! inspiration, come to me!
deep down, i am aware that if i just do some cluster writing... just blast out some words that mean something to me in realtion to something i enjoy, i will spew a story....
why not try that yourself? cluster write...you might break that poetic silence.

I'm available for the tag-team method of writing....it's worked before. ;)

Try a lot of masturbation.
That's a good answer in almost every situation. But I think an increase in that department might cause 1:st degree friction burns

Or try withholding masturbation to be used as a reward for writing? :D
Blasphemy.

Vella and I did it for our Superstition stories, and you'll have to ask her what she thought, but it worked well for me.

Several nights in a row, as we were working on our stories, we kept sending them back and forth, and I would tweak hers a little, she would tweak mine, and send it back. It provided me with a break from what I was working on - briefly, so as not to distract - and another pair of eyes at the same time. I loved the story I ended up with.

Looking forward to it. :)

OK, now don't jump on me for the socratic examination, but...

What're people's thoughts on the effect this forum has on the author members' (that sounds nasty) motivations?

Do you think hanging out here has the effect of a bit of brain drain like watching too much TV?

Or
Do you think hanging out/participating here motivates you to write more?

And here's the real gold star question: For those to whom the experience doesn't seem to add to the motivation, how could this change? That is, what could be different about the environment or contributions that would help?

Liar love, I think maybe doing a bit of reading would help -maybe reading will sparkoff that motivationto get motivated!

or as Imp says try one of the challenges that linger around here, or think of one of your own to start. Something like that is short, has guidelines and once you say "yeah I'll do this" you kind of have to get it done.

maybe try doing something for the valentines day comp...you've got a deadline to work to then and that might help youto actually settle down to write!

Or just relax and have some good sex (cyber or real) and write a true life confession.... :p

Maybe start a thread, and ask those questions. I don't want to hijack Liar's.

This place insipires me to write (the challenges, some of the debatey type threads, some of the just fun flirtyones too) and it is also mybreath of fresh air and my break from writing. Even when i take a break here though I'm thinking about getting back to my writing.

Would I write more if I didn't come here? maybe
Would it be as good? probably not. I've learned alot from folks here.

Good point, I guess I hesitate to start new threads. I'll do that.

No spanking then? damn :(

(just trying to motivate you liar, honest -no more distractions from me)

I'll tell you what works for me: find a captive audience. Find someone you care about who really wants to read what you're writing (including them in the story is probably the best way of guaranteeing their interest) and then write it for them. Writing for yourself is a lonely and thankless discipline. All that changes when you're writing for someone else.

Another thing that's worked for me is going over to the sexual role playing baord and getting involved in a story. The principle of the captive audience is the same, and the exchange of ideas can bring you fresh challenges and make things interesting.

Personally, if I'm just writing for myself, there's not much joy in it. If I'm writing for someone else, I can be a real demon on the keys.
