Ok folks.... This is abit irratating... The lady and I were havign relations today, and I kept having trouble getting the condom on, by no means was this my first time. What are the size requirements for "magnum" condoms? the problem was I would get it over the head and when I tried to roll it down it wouldnt, I would get it down about half way. Now the condoms were trojans with spericidal lubricant. Could the lube be making it more difficult? One scary thing happened.... the condom came off in her, so guess whose going to planned parenthood tommorow!!! Any tips?

I'm not a guy, but I'm going to take a guess that it's the condom size. I've put condoms on a few guys and some of them I didn't think I'd ever get the condom on. The way I see it is like trying to put a rubber glove on that's a size too small. It's not going to go on easy, and I can see it coming off inside of something snug. I would look at trying the magnums. It may be more comfortable for you too.

If you click on the links on this page you'll get the dimensions for popular brands of larger condoms. When you figure out if you need larger condoms, buy a sample pack from one of the many stores (prices and selection vary) online, and then see which ones fit and feel best.

However, was the problem that it wouldn't roll down because it was way too tight, or that it just wouldn't roll down beyond a certain point at all? How many condoms did you try? Are you positive they weren't inside out (when you took it off, did you unroll it some on your fingers to make sure?)?

Unless your partner hasn't had a problem with spermicide recently, I wouldn't suggest using it. Many family planning and health clinics have stopped stocking condoms with spermicide because so many people are irritated by it, and that irritation can increase the risk of contracting HIV and other STDs. Because it's essentially a detergent, it can also throw off the natural balance of the vagina, causing yeast and other infections.

If your partner doesn't have a problem with it, great, but avoid using it several times a day, and I'd suggest using another lube, both in the tip of the condom (not more than a couple of drops) and on the outside of the condom.

Did you have sex with the condom rolled all the way down to the base, or with it only on partway? Did you pull out immediately after coming, or stay inside until you started to soften? Did you hold the base while you were pulling out? Did you use lube on the outside of the condom?

Answering those questions should help you determine why the condom came off, and help you avoid it in the future. In 9 years of using condoms with my husband, we've NEVER had one break or come off, but we're very careful about making sure it goes on and comes off properly, using lube, etc., so I have no doubt that's why we've never had problems.

In case you don't know, Plan B (the morning after pill) is available over the counter at many pharmacies if you don't want to go to Planned Parenthood or want to get it asap. Most large chains (which are usually the ones that have 24-hour pharmacies) carry it. Just ask the pharmacist.

Ok I oculd only get it half way down, and I tried like 8 condoms, and I had them rolling all the right way. Thanks for the tip on the spermicide. Now question on the larger condoms. I have girth but only like 7 inches long, would say a magnum work then? or is it too big?

Thanks for your help

My husband uses Magnums and they are much more comfortable to him and they fit a LOT better. We used to use the regular size and they were very uncomfortable to him and he had a hard time getting them on. He is a lot like you in size, it sounds like. He is about 7.5 inches long, but has more girth than the average man. I would try the magnums and see how you like them.

You should never use a condom if you can't get it on properly..... The fact that you only had it on half way down is probably the reason that it came off inside of her. It's just not worth the risk.

Try the Magnums.... I think you will like them.

And you had sex with it halfway down, huh? Probably not a wise thing to do in the future. ;)

How much girth do you have? I don't know how reliable this page is (it's probably accurate, but anyone that promotes penis enlargement is a little sketchy at best, IMO), but it does give recommendations based on length and girth. http://www.ripnroll.com/Large.htm gives a quick comparison of the sizes of larger condoms, but it looks like the vast majority are 1.5" (vs. 1.325" for most average sized condoms). Only 2% of men need the largest Trojan Magnum XL and Durex XXL, but the Magnum XL is 1.75" wide, so if you have a major amount of girth (e.g. 6+ inches), those might be good for you. Otherwise, the usual large condoms, maybe the ones with extra headroom, will probably be fine.

Again, find a store that sells larger-size samplers, or better yet, individual condoms so you can put together your own sampler (get at least 2 of each condom you want to try), and see what fits you best.

Adult novelty stores usually have the individual condoms and you can select the ones that you would like to try. I agree that u should get at least 2 of the ones that you try.

True, but brick-and-mortar stores may not have a good selection of larger condoms, and probably won't have the extra large at all. Such a small percentage of the population needs them that they may figure it's not worth it to carry such a specialty item when they're readily available online.

In addition to more of a selection, condoms are usually cheaper, and it's easier to comparison shop, online. :)

Here we have Mates brand with one that has a 'comfort' fit, basically it's a more generous size. The standard fit if I can get it on feels a bit like wrapping a rubber band around my cock a few times, not that I would ever have done such a thing, oh no!

I'm not hugely long but quite thick, on the standard condoms it feels like I've used up all the 'stretch' when it's about half way down.

I think a too small one is more likely to come off (especially lubed) than a too big one. Oddly enough the painfully tight ones were German, I did read somewhere that the EU was trying to standardise condom sizing and the Germans wanted small ones and the Italians large . . .

Yah.... got that :) Size wise I have about 5 inches or so in circumfrence, I have no idea what that is in diameter..... math is hard. Update... she went and got the morning after pill. so all is well.

Just realize Plan B is extremely hard on our bodies. It's a good solution when something goes awry, but the chances of that happening are very low when condoms and other forms of bc are used correctly. If a couple isn't ready to conceive, it's irresponsible to have sex without good birth control. Counting on Plan B to fix irresponsible behavior is like thinking, 'oh, I don't need to eat right and exercise because I can always have angioplasty and gastric bypass surgery when my arteries clog and I become morbidly obese.'

I'm not directing this at you specifically--it sounds like you know better now--but it probably won't hurt you to keep reinforcing the idea that it's called 'EMERGENCY contraception,' rather than 'laziness,' 'lack of willpower' or 'I don't like condoms/the pill' contraception for a good reason.

Anyway, it looks like the regular Trojan Magnums (they're the large size, but NOT the Magnum XL) are worth a try, and possibly your best bet with a 5" girth/circumference. Let us know how they, and anything else you try, work out for you, as it seems like there are a good number of men here who have similar problems. And unlike someone suggested, it is NOT safer to use condoms that are too large vs. those that are too small, so if anything you try is anything less than very snug, you need to find something smaller.

I possibly didn't quite phrase that right, what I really meant is that a too tight one can work itself off quite easily whilst in action. Believe me, I've had it happen. Fit is important, and of course a condom does need to be snug.

No I realize that its just for emergencys, which we had. She has an appointment to get regular BC, and we decided to cool it on the sex front for a while, which I am fine with. Damn near gave me a heart attack though, she went for the plan b yesterday then called me saying she wanted to talk to me in person, that she had been doing some soul searching. I thought for sure she was dumping me! Turns out she just wanted to lay off the sex for a while which I was fine with. I told her not to scare me like that again :) Thanks for all your help folks!

I bet she was as scared as you were, or even more. You see... she could have been pregnant and you could have walked out on her after that. It's good to cool things down, of course, but you don't have to if you just take the right precautions....

Anyway, be well! Both of you.

Oh I meant being scared about her dumping me. I wouldnt have walked out on her, at this point in life or ever. I would take care of my responsibilites. She wants to take a break with the sex and I am fine with that. I am not dating her for sex. Thanks for all your help.
