Hey, I'm writing a story that contains gay men, somnophilia, and non con due to the somnophilia. I'm trying to find an editor, but finding a category for this is difficult - What do you think it would be under?

Non-consent usually overrides other category considerations. There's a reasonable chance that the editor will move it there even if you place it in Gay Male or some other category. Good luck finding an editor!

Write the story first - you might find when it's finished that the primary theme has shifted a bit. From your brief summary though, it does sound like Non-con.

A tricky endeavor in any venue

I feel like I see a lot of noncon in the GM category, including mine lol

I was told this but my most recent story is non-con and was moved to Gay Male. Might be worth putting a note in the submission notes asking about it.

Well, I did say 'usually' and 'reasonable chance' up above. 🤷‍♀️
Most of the people who come here to talk about re-categorization report having their stories moved to Non-Con or Incest when they feature those elements, but as the old adage goes, the putative evil one lurks in the minutiae. It's also possible that stories getting shunted elsewhere happens less than we think, if we're inferring too much from the people who saw fit to come here and question or complain about the policy.

It's an occasional thing, I reckon, where Laurel moves a story to where she thinks it will run best. She'll also make a judgement call if you're not sure. I've asked her at least twice to select what she reckons is the better category for a story.

Me too. Asked about what the more appropriate category was on a couple of stories. It was posted in the category I submitted it in. So... I guess it would be a really rare event to have her move a story.

Case in point, a recent story I submitted was 98.9% engagement between a man in his twilight years and his newly acquired oriental caretaker. Only up to the last scene, a few paragraphs, is it revealed she is a tree spirit who guides troubled souls such as he into the afterlife. Laurel left it in the non-human category I assigned it to. It scores well there, but so few readers in that category. I felt it was one of my better tales, since it is based upon real life events of mine. Except I don't know any tree spirits. ;):nana:
