I am showing off my actual complete lack of knowledge here. I have many stories previously published on a another site. That site has gone away. I would love to republish so my work can be enjoyed by others, thus an account at Litererotica. I have attempted to publish and have been a dismal failure. Yes I read the faqs. My issue is basic formatting. I have tried posting attached files in .txt and in .docx and in .rtf . I have also cut and pasted the same stories but they keep getting rejected for formatting. I certainly hope you established writers can show me the error of my ways. Please help

It could anything from the number of carriage returns between paragraphs to writing in all capital letters. "Formatting" is a broad term that could cover a lot of things.

I can tell you that from the information in the original post that uploading a *.docx file will not work. Word documents need to be submitted as *.doc files (Word 97 or earlier version format).

I would be happy to look at your file if that might be of interest to you.

Cutting and pasting your story is probably the easiest way to upload it.

The text should contain two new lines (or carriage returns) between paragraphs, but nothing between lines. The site's software puts the line breaks where they need to be. Paragraphs are not indented.

There's only a small set of formatting, like bold and italic, that you can use that will get through the filters. Changes in color and typeface won't go through and might get it sent back.

You can include typography in your text if you submit it as an rtf file or a word processor file. If you cut-and-past or submit a text file then the typography needs to be done with html tags.

Welcome! And welcome to the sometimes ‘odd’ submission standards we too have all puzzzled over at one time or another.

I too would be willing to have a quick look at one of your stories; PM me if I might help. I myself write in Word, then copy and paste into the website. That works, with one or two quirks.

Good luck.

This is what messed me up the first time I tried to submit a story. A single space between the paragraphs looks fine in Word but I had to go back and add a space between each paragraph.

There may be a way to use the find-and-replace edit function to add a line without doing it all manually but I haven’t tried it and I’m not sure if it works for that.

You can go nuclear, open the text in notepad and save it as plain text. Open the plain text file in word and reformat everything. Go one line at a time. If you need smaller paragraphs, find the right breaking points and insert your return. If, for some reason, you used a return at the end of every line of typing, you will need to make the flow as paragraphs.
