help with avatar

Where do I find a list of avatars to choose from ??

Lit doesn't have a list of avatars. You have to use the "custom avatar" option.

1: Find any picture you like on the Web that you would like to have as an avatar or scan/take a picture of something or someone you know.

2: Save the picture to your computer.

3: crop and resize the picture as necessary to bring it into the 150x150 pixels and 20480 (20Kb) limits for an avatar here.

4: go to UserCP/Edit Profile and load you avatar according to the instructions for a "custom avatar" at the bottom of the edit profile page.

(If you don't have image editing software, download Irfanview from Cnet or IrFanview.com. IrFanview is freeware and does a decent job of resizing without distorting the image.)

Is there a certain type of file it has to be? jpeg, gif or bitmap?

Just hit 100, gonna try resizing and see if it works now.

Any of those file types will work, although JPG works best for most pictures.

JPeG allows more colors and is smaller than Bitmap (BMP) format. With BMP format and a colorful avatar (more than 256 colors used) you'll find it hard to meet the 20Kb size limit.

GIF format is (I think) the only one that allows animation, although animatd GIFs often run into problems withthe size limitation also. Newer JPeG definitions might allow animations, but I can't recall any animated avatars that aren't GIF format.

THANK YOU!

Thank you for passing along the advice. I installed the free photo editing software that came with my webcam tonight. I resized my pic and re-saved it as a different file type. Now I have an AV!

Btw, this is the link I used: http://www.freeavatars.net/
It was easy, even for a computer illiterate gal like myself.;)

I keep getting a message that it is not a valid jpg or gif file.......

What am I doing wrong? I am saving it to my computer, then selecting it when trying to set my av......

Thanks!!!
