Having more than one (active) virus killer just might be your problem -- they interfere with each other an even sometimes see the pattern files of the others as infected.

Grisoft's AVG Free, TrendMicro's PC-Cillin, and several other free or cheap virus programs work well and will catch new infections in real-time. I use AVG Free and it has caught every attempt to infect my system.

The first step if you're infected is to go to a virus check vendor's site and find their online virus scan -- TrendMicro's "Housecall" is one of the best online virus scans.

The second step is to scan for "malware" or "spyware" with something like Ad-Aware -- Virus scanners only look for viruses and most of them ignore other problems like Homepage hijackers and pop-up ad generators. Programs like Ad-Aware, Spybot Search and Destroy, and other "spyware removers" target those annoying, unwanted infections that don't fit the definition of a "virus" or "worm."

This suggests your problem is "spyware" or "adware" rather than a "virus." If you don't have a spyware remover, get one -- preferably something with a real-time scan like Ad-Aware's "Ad Watch" function to prevent reinfections.
