Sorry if this is on the wrong board but I need a little help and guidance. I have submitted a couple of stories on here and I was wondering how long roughly it takes for them to be put up for the public to see?

Thanks in advance for your help and again sorry if I am in the wrong place I was told to try here by someone in the general board thread.

Not to fear, almost everyone asks this question as they bite their nails waiting for the first story to post.

The simple answer is that the usual turnaround time is 3 days.

However:

  • New authors often have an extra day or two added on the first few stories
  • During a themed contest, it may be longer than usual ( the Earth Day contest is going on right now )
  • A lot of people submitting at the same time can delay it as well.
  • Audio and Illustrated stories require special handling, and are typically only posted on certain days of the week.

For your first story, you won't even want to start worrying until at least a week has passed. That gives plenty of leeway for the factors involved in anything except an audio/illustrated story.

If you do get a rejection, and don't understand the listed reason, or it doesn't post in a week, you can always ask in the volunteer editor's forum for someone to help clarify ( and maybe look the story over for you as well )

Or, since this thread is already here, you could just follow up in it.

Good luck with your first story!

Dark has pretty much covered it except, if you go to your index page to see if it has posted or not, DO NOT click on the word "pending." If you do, your story will start over at the end of the queue, and take another three days or more to post.

All this is assuming you used copy and paste to submit your story, which is the usual. If you used some other method, it will probably take longer because of that too.

Good luck on your first story.

and i would sugest coping and pasting because i just tried entering a word document and it was rejected because they couldn't read it.

Vixen, did you put the ".doc" after the title of your story file? If not, it will always be rejected, as the posting software can't assimilate a Word file without the".doc" suffix. Note that Rich Text Files and Word files take longer to post than cut-and-pastes, because the Lit staff have to unscramble them.

The short answer...two days to a week.

The long answer...not in your lifetime.

:D
