I have a 10 year old cousin that I need to find a present for.

He used to like sports, but he is now a couch potato, so sports balls gather dust.

He is too old for 'baby games', to old to color, to old for matchbox cars.

However, some of the stuff I look at seems to old for him, as well.

Legos are a good standby gift, I guess.

Some games are good, but most are more then I can afford to spend on a cousin.

My ideal price range is around $10. As I said, lego's can be good, but I want to see what other things kids that age might like.

action figures might fit the bill or a gift certificate and he can et what he likes
pokemon
books

Damn Gilly,

I can't answer this one.. i have 8 year old, 11 year old and 14 year old boys

I just don't fit into your criteria.. :D ;)

subscription to tv guide? (you said he is a couch potato) ;)

Personally I have been giving my son's friends Toys R Us's gift cards for 10 dollars. They love getting what they want, and I dont have to guess at what they wanted.

Do you know if he's into the card games like Pokemon and Magic: The Gathering? If so, packs of cards would be good, they're $2-$3 a pack.

My son is 14, but he still likes them. :)

I'm not a parent, but I do have a bro that age.
Don't know about the expense, but my bro plays the game "Risk" just about every day.

Does he play by the rules?

Not usually.

He just makes up his own armies and declares war on different countries. He's such a cute little guy.:)

I'm 22 I colour, i have a whole fucking box of dinki cars (though my mom keeps telling me there not mine anymore lol) Lego's are good but for $10 you'll only get someting that has like 20 peices which is something that will only fit in your hand.... (i'm a lego nut :D)

every kid is different, so find out what he's interested in, and kids books are usualy a good idea for somene that age...

Idea???

Gilly my son is 12 and he is really into this 'Dragonball Z', I don't know if your cousin like that show but it seems to be pretty popular among the kids. They have action figures available and trading cards and games of all kinds, maybe it's worth a try. Good Luck and let me know how you come out with the gift, I'm interested, I love kids ;)

Todd:)

Ahh...

I've heard the words "Dragonball Z" come out of his mouth on several occasions.

Kinda figured it was his equivalent of a curse.

You know, like if you stub your toe..."DRAGONBALL Z!!!"

Uhhh...no?

;)

Ok, saying couch potato was putting it nicely.

The kid doesn't need a TV Guide, he has it memorized.
His mother is 5'8" and weighs roughly 120 pounds. She is really skinny. Just can't keep weight on. His dad is like 5'10" and maybe 160. Tyler is 4'10" right now, and weighs 135 pounds. He is 10. This is all since he stopped playing sports about 2 years ago. They say he eats right, but the times I am around him, he lives off Mac n Cheese, Oreo cookies (for breakfast), and candy bars. But aside from that... the only real love I know he has is the TV.

I refuse to get him anything for that addiction. The kid needs to get out and about. Action figures was one I was thinking of. What about Harry Potter? Would that be around the right age? To young? Games that I have found for under 10 are Operation, Connect Four, and Battle Ship. I think he might be alright with Battle Ship, but not entirly sure.

For trading cards, he was big into Pokemon last year (which I can get at the dollar store now :p) but now that's for 'babies'. Magic he hasn't explored yet. What other ones are out this year? Is there a DragonBallZ one? I doubt the barbie trading cards would go over ;)

I think I will end up copping out and grabbing a GC from Toys R Us, since there is one near where they live. I know he gets other ones for there for Christmas, so I know he will be able to put it towards something bigger, too.

Oh, well, just wanted to know if anyone had idea's for anything outsiode of what I had thought of.

I agree, my little sister is 12 she's a tomboy though and loves just about anything with Dragonball Z all those types of things.

Todd:)

Hell, my 25 year old husband asked for DBZ figures for Christmas this year!

That one I think would be safe. It seems they have taken over Pokemon for the older boys this year.

buy a book and sit down on that couch with him, at least he'll remember the time with you:)

That I would do, if the kid would actually not kick and scream to sit next to someone. He isn't the most... joyful of kids to be around. The problem with me just going out and grabbing any old boy thing, is that when he doesn't get what he wants, he throws fits that rival my 2 year olds temper tantrums. Again, if I hadn't already gotten his sisters presant, I am not sure I would have worried about it. We just don't have any extra money this year, but I hate getting something for one without the other.

For all you that are sugesting Dragon Ball Z...... NO lol
that's not a kids show though in the US they tryed to make it one. watch the show in canada or in the origanal Japanese, it's vilent, lost of swearing, blood and gore everywhere nudity adult jokes...

Oh i love the show to hell but i would never permit a kid to watch it with me. my nephew has some of the figures but he don't know what they are.

so Gilly if you do get this for him... check with his mom first :D

Hell, my aunt wouldn't care less so long as the kid doesn't throw a fit over it like he normally does on Christmas. I mean, he is one of those kids who you still have to get a small presant for on OTHER kids birthday's. Gift Certificate is how I think I am gonna go, so I don't have to hear him throwing a fit.

rope is cheap, besides he's at that turning age where what he wants will always cost too much, aww shit, go with the rope. He'll get used to it;)

i have 18 yr old stepson, 13 yr old son , 12 yr old stepson and 8 yr old son! All live with us. IMHO Sounds like to me his parents need to take a Toughlove course. Get the kid back into sport and off that couch.

Anyway DragonballZ is really popular at the moment. Trading cards.

lol Or buy the parents a timer for the tv so that it turns off and can't turn back on without the code :( Hopefully then he would go get some fresh air.

Good luck :)

I have a ten year old son... Movie theater passes are a really good gift. His parents can drop he and a friend. For ten bucks he can get two matinee tickets.... Good Luck :)

His parents are divorced. The father goes with tough love, though it borders on ignoring the kid all together.

The mother goes with buying love. Ever since he was born, each and every trip to the store (be it a grocery store, pharmacy, department store, etc) he would come home with something new. By the time he was 2 or 3, he would scream if he was told no. She found it easier to just keep him quiet by getting him what he wanted. The trend has continued.

define couch potato please. If all he's doing is watching tv or playing games now...that's certainly not good. Get him out, take him to the park so he'll interact with those his own age. There will be a time that he appreciates that more than any gift.

What an 11 yr old boy likes

My son is 11. Harry Potter is "the" thing this year. There are all kinds of stuff now, not just the books, but maybe this genre is something he might be interested in.

Also, my son is into these things called finger bikes--they sell them at Toys R Us and are about $5 each. They are miniatures--they have motorcycles, bicycles and now skateboards--you can take them apart and change out part of them and so on.

What is he watching on tv? If it's Nick then there are bunches of novelty items with the Nick label--the WORST is slime--it's under $10 but I wouldn't get it if you value your relationship w/ your aunt. But ask the toy people where the Nick items are...they will have that Nick logo on them.

Then buy his mother a ping pong paddle to use on his behind!

My son is 10...he lives on his skateboard. You can get them fairly cheap at Wal~Mart. My son went thru a hundred of them before we finally got smart and bought a better a skateboard, now we have only wasted $130 twice! :D

If he lived anywhere near me, he would. He lives about 2 hours away, and unfortunatly, we never get down there. Otherwise, he would likely end up with us alot more often, and outside with my kids. When we visit, and he is around, he usually is. But, not often enough.

Couch potato... ALL he does is play video games, watch movies, and watch TV. This last year, he was in Rocket Football, and wasn't allowed to play at all because he exceeded the weight limit. I don't know much about his dad's family. His dad's not what I would call overweight. He is stocky. Not overly tall for a guy, but definatly not over weight, either. His mom is tall for a woman (least, compared to my short butt), and skinny as a rail. She has about 3 inches on me, and weighs (my pre-pregnancy weight) about 20 pounds less then me. Honestly, I don't think the weight gain is heredity. He was a fairly small kid until the last couple of years. When he was 4, he was about the same size as my 5 year old, which is around 35 pounds. Small for his age then. Not anymore. I sincerelly think the tv, and the food habits are 90% of it.
