help needed who's seen donnie darko *SPOILERS*

watched it last night was either a very good film or a very bad film im still trying to decide ... its got me thinking so in that way its very good here's part of what i figured out :




donnie gets killed by the jet engine however that jet engine is from a plane that doesn't take off for 27 days ... the jet engine traveled back in time through a worm hole (the sky opening)

because he cant be killed by something that doesn't exist yet he go's into a time loop and has 27 days until time will catch up with itself because in the time loop he is destined to kill frank (destiny is important in this film the water tube thingies) frank is also trapped in a time loop but in franks time loop he is dead but will be alive when the time loop ends unlike donnie (this is why donnie see's frank ... perhaps )

through the time loop donnie gets a chance to not die alone (his biggest fear) and to find happiness by meeting his girlfriend


things i don't get :

1) the sparrow lady why did she write that book why can she see the destiny water worm things too and why is she checking for a letter everyday ... is she somehow waiting for donnie's letter ?

2) frank is god talking through frank to donnie ? god seems an element that is discussed in the film too and im sure it must fit in somewhere since donnie and his teacher talk about seeing god's plan but not being able to change it

3) donnie burned down that perverts house which forced his mother to go away (everything frank told him too do was for a reason) ... was this just so he could get laid and have that party ?

4) was it just luck that the worm hole happened with the jet engine coming through it to kill donnie ... my thoughts were that it was just a random thing and the random occurrence set in motion all the film

5) why was it so important to save the sparrow lady at the end why were they rushing there i didn't really get that bit



ahhh headache now i think i've thought about this film too much ... but if anyone else has too let me know

Ok , I started a thread about this movie the morining after I saw it too, so I know where you're comming from.

The thing I was never quite sure about was did any of this really happen or was it all a series of random events twisted in the mind of a young man sliding over the edge of Schizophrenia. If you haven't, you should check out the website. It helps a little. Very little, but nonetheless.

only film i've seen out of your list was memento i enjoyed that tons i think it was easier to understand then this one though


sunstruck i saw your thread my guess is this is just one of those films that you use your imagination that you decide yourself what it is really about ... but not sure if i like that ... i think i like to know that the writer or director in their minds know exactly what every single thing in the movie means ... but did they ?
