Again....

Its a worm.....(klez) and according to the housecall website it is easy to remove...maybe if I was a computer whiz I would also think it was easy :)

Can anybody help me please?

You need to go to your virus protections home site.....they will remove it.

I've tried that, I downloaded the removal tool......did all it asked me to do (three times) and the damn virus is still there! To top it off the first scan said that I had 1 file infected and the second scan ten minutes later say's that I now have 8 files infected! Stubborn little bugger!

I'm confused

worms

Hi there,

A worm is a virus that copies itself into the computer and tries to send info to the internet. You just need to get an anti-virus program such as Norton AntiVirus. (This is not my info, but info from a friend. I personally know nothing about computers.)

I've got Norton antivirus...the catch is you virtually have to update it weekly (if not more often) and I guess well I've sort of been slack in the update department.....<insert sigh smiley here>

I'm starting to panic now...can someone please get me a paper bag to breath into?

sorry to say this.. but I had this virus a couple of weeks ago on my computer..

I had to finally reformat because I couldn't get it to go away. I read somewhere (mcaffee.com maybe?) that it attacks your virus scan program and messes it up too..

Hope you get things worked out.. without having to reformat.

I'm computer illiterate when it comes to worms but I got this message in email today on another list I belong to:

This nasty little bugger disables antivirus
applications (unless you are very current, at least as
of April 17), and it will also screw up your
REGEDIT.EXE, so that it's more work to get rid of it and
repair its damage.

A quick search to see if you have it is to do a search
for WINK*.*

And this too:

For everyone's info:

W32.Klez.gen@mm is a mass-mailing worm that will send itself to all email addresses in the Microsoft Outlook Address Book. The worm may include a virus that will destroy all files on the 13th of March and September.

This is a more detailed description of the virus:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.klez.gen@mm.html

Here is the tool to remove the virus:

Bindii is not happy! :(

Use current engine and DAT files for detection.
Once infected, VirusScan may not be able to run as the virus can terminate the process before any scanning/removal is accomplished. The following steps will circumvent this action and allow for proper VirusScan scanning/removal, by using the command-line scanner.

Ensure that you are using the minimum DAT specified or higher.
Close all running applications
Disconnect the system from the network
Click START | RUN, type command and hit ENTER
Change to the VirusScan engine directory:
Win9x/ME - Type cd \progra~1\common~1\networ~1\viruss~1\40~1.xx and hit ENTER
WinNT/2K/XP - Type cd \progra~1\common~1\networ~1\viruss~1\40F809~1.xx and hit ENTER
Rename SCAN.EXE to CLEAN.EXE to prevent the virus from terminating the process and deleting files. Type, ren scan.exe clean.exe and hit ENTER
First, scan the system directory
Win9x/ME - Type clean.exe %windir%\system\win*.exe and hit ENTER
WinNT/2K/XP - Type clean.exe %windir%\system32\win*.exe and hit ENTER
Once the scan has completed, Type clean.exe /adl /clean and hit ENTER
Rename scan.exe. Type, ren clean.exe scan.exe and hit ENTER
After scanning and removal is complete, reboot the system

I must really blonde! Are you speaking English here?

I knew I should have taken that computer course when I had the chance!

I would like to add that the last time I tried to manually remove a virus from my system I accidently deleted DOS.....yes it can be done!

Bindii, you sound like me! Do you know any 10 or 11 year old kids? They can do this stuff blindfolded.

Biindi..

me being the blonde that I am.. reformatted rather than following those instructions.

Atleast reformatting would be done quickly.

Do you use Outlook Express for emails? If so.. that is probably where it came from.. do like I did.. ignore Outlook and start using a webbased email.. (hotmail, yahoo or one of the other half a millioin).. OE sucks

Reformatting is starting to look better all the time.
I do use Microsoft outlook for emails, and your right when I only used my hotmail address I didn't have any problems with viruses..this is the second virus this year my computer has picked up.

Dammit, I have only just started to replace all my lost files from the last one. Can I save my documents on disk, or will I just reinfect the compter when I use them?

I hate computers!

http://www.symantec.com

removal tool is on main page here if you do not have it......run it several times.

and remove your name from outlook directory. It sends virus to all names in it.

from what I understand.. it isn't picky about the files it infects.

I had backed up some of my more important stuff before I had the virus.. but I chose to lose all the stuff I hadn't backed up before the virus.

I figured it was better to be safe than sorry
