I received this email and didn't even know how to answer this passive aggressive drivel. He is certainly off my speed dial. Any suggestions on what to put in a return email? This is from an MD, who should know better. Give it your best shot...

I occasionally get crap like this too, and just ignore it.

That stuff is like the folks who say thaey can predict the future- you throw enough darts, and your bound to hit the target eventually. But the people who want to believe are gonna believe no matter what I say, so I save my breath.

Course, you could start a White Male (or whatever ethnicity is appropriate) between the ages of 17 and 40 list- for white males, it would be quite a bit longer...

I think I'd forget to reply to that one.

Maybe send a new unrelated email if you feel you need to get back to him.

Silence can speak louder than words, sometimes.

I had no idea that Wile E Coyote, the Smurfs, the Boy Scouts, Pee Wee Herman and all those other guys were so DANGEROUS!

Normally, I don't even open emails like this
But this is someone I know very well
It was a shock to realize just how reactionary he is

I didn't realize how dangerous a small mind could really be

I should've gotten suspicious when I realized he never swears! Ever!

He was too short and hairy anyway...

Silence had already been instituted

.... before the email was sent

I think it is an attempt to stick his tongue out at me and at the same time jar me from my obviously misinformed liberal stance.

It has "neener, neener" written between the lines

Here's the thing, though.

He has a point.

Which part seems outlandish?

(And I'm purposefully holding back my full take on this until some answers arrive. ;) )

The way people respond to the situation we are in is sometimes unpredtable.

A number of people I thought knew me well were surprised at my stance on the war-

Aah, then silence for the doctor is golden.:rose:

"neener, neener" is meaner than a nice and spicey girl like you.

The part that implies that Muslim extremists can be identified by sight.

Oddly enough, that's not what I read in that last paragraph. :(

That last paragraph is chock full o' somethin' we like to call sarcasm.

Sorry to state the obvious but 99.9999999% of muslims between the age of 17 & 40 are not extremists or terrorists. They are the same as the rest of us & not interested in destroying America or killing all westerners.

It's amazing how America is now going down the same road as Britain in the 1970's. Where a democracy inflicts large amounts of damage on itself by viewing all people of a certain group as terrorists.

Think of the Guilford Four, the Birmingham Six with people spending years in jail on false evidence.

In witch hunts it's the inocent who will suffer, not the terrorists (in both the cases above the terrorist are still free).

I suggest the person who sent this to you is advised to watch 'In The Name Of The Father' with Daniel Day Lewis to see how these things happen.

This just in...

It is the next day and this email just flew in:

Sorry for the lack of phone communication, but I've been:

a) stressed out about my very difficult statistics final

b) working hard on finishing my statistics final, taking MANY hours

c) fuming about the anti-war protests (but calming down)

d) trying to maintain my sanity

e) all of the above

I feel very passionate about my country, and have a difficult time with the anti-war folks, feeling that those "demonstrations" should have been prior to the initiation of the campaign (and I'm afraid I've associated you with those folks)....but I'm getting better.

My reply:
I am passionate about my country as well
I cry when I hear the Star Spangled Banner
I resent that I am seen as unpatriotic because I don't agree with you

Good luck with your exam

Which roughly translates: Don't call us, we'll call you

To those who agree with this man's sentiments, do you feel being against the war means we don't love our country? My anti-war sentiment is firmly based in my religious faith as a Buddhist.

By the way, here is an article I found about profiling on the airlines.

The complete Mister Bean is going to be released on DVD at the end of April.

Sorry.

Carry on.

I am assuming you have a "personal" relationship with him? going on that assumption, I ould cool it off, but nicely, especially if you have contact with him on a professional basis. However if he confronts you as to why. I would tell him the truth about how you feel about what he sent. That you found it offensive and small minded and chose not to spend your precious free time with someone who you have no respect for.

Edit: I guess I should have read the whole thread before replying... but You seemed to have handled it well..:)

I suppose it made so apparent the sentiment that to have a different opinion is un-American. That one cannot even communicate civilly with rant or datribe and rhetoric. Just very sad.

And I love Mr. Bean

I would not waste time or effort, he will not listen to anything you may counter with. Just keep an even keel and toss this kind of stuff into the garbage can.
