Help! Life Plays Cruel Little Tricks on You

Try Herpecin-L or an ointment with zinc oxide. Or both. Like one in the morning, one at night. They zinc oxide will help dry it out, and I think the Herpecin-L actually kills the virus.

I get those god forsaken things, too, and they always show up at the worst damn times.

I genreally bite it open and apply salt directly to it.

WARNING: It will burn and hurt like hades but geerally completely healed in three days.

ADENDUM{sp}: Straight salt, not salt water, pack it right in and grti yer teeth cause it will be hurtful

Not that I think you ever would, but please don't listen to Todd's advice, especially on this.

Thats why I added a warning its not for everyone. I used to suffere and languish with them for 2-3 weeks before they would go away. I tried Zincs and every drug method and home remedy for them and nothing would even effect them for me, there I sat with them lasting up to 3 weeks, making everything I ate a painful experience.

Then one day with a cold sore in my mouth, eating potato chips the Salt hurt like hades, So I figured in my head why no get some salt and apply it directly to the cold sore. So I got the box of salt out put a bunch on my finger and shoved it right into the coldsore rubbing it right in. Tears welled up in my eyes, but after about 5 minutes it stopped hurting, a dull throb. The next day it wasn't hurting and was about half its size. wo days later it was gone.

I been doing it ever since. And within 3 days they are gone, much better than 2-3 weeks.

Its not for everyone though, some people can't handle thier salt.

Todd, then what you're talking about is a canker sore, not a cold sore. I don't think you CAN get a cold sore IN your mouth.

I stand corrected. I was told they were all the same thing, guess I am gonna smack someone. What ever name it is called the salt works for me.

Lavender, it's not luck but stress that causes cold sores to appear. Anticipating some law firm schmoozing isn't stressful, is it? ;)

There is a new product out called Abreva that is supposed to shorten the healing time. I bought some at Target but haven't tried it yet. Damn expensive though, around $13 for a tiny tube. If you have health insurance, you can go to your physician and get a Rx for Zovirax (antiviral cream) that works really well for most people.

On a preventitive note, pick up some zinc tablets (the kind you swallow, not the lozenge). Zinc is a building block of the immune system, 50 or 100mg per day will help your body fight off attack from all quarters. May even help in your current outbreak.

Good luck. :)

I don't have any advice for cold sores- luckily, that's one thing I never get myself (knock on wood.)

I do have something to add though. When I saw the title of your thread, before I opened it to find out what trouble you needed help with, a thought dawned on me. I wanted to be able to help with whatever it was that you needed.

You're a regular name on the board, and I realized I really did WANT to help you. I'm not quite sure why that surprised me enough to make a note of it. Maybe it still has to do with Dixon's comments from awhile ago about how people here aren't real, that real friendships have to have face to face contact. I still disagree. There are a number of you here who I would try to help in any way I could (within reason) if you needed help. And it doesn't matter if I've never met you, or even that I probably wouldn't be great friends with you in RL if we did know each other. I know you from Lit, and that's enough to make me want to help.
