BALTIMORE, Maryland (AP) -- Authorities appealed to the public to identify an abandoned 3-year-old girl who says her name is Courtney, she's from Brooklyn and she wants her mommy.

The little girl was found May 5 when the father dropped her off with a stranger at an unknown location in Baltimore, Sue Fitzsimmons, a spokeswoman for the city Department of Social Services, said Monday. He said he was leaving to cash a money order, but he never returned and the stranger called police.

The child told authorities she is from Brooklyn, New York. She said she and her father had been living in a Baltimore warehouse.

The girl has been in foster care since she was found.

Fitzsimmons said Monday that if Courtney's relatives do not come forward to claim her, she will be permanently placed with a family in Baltimore.

** I know alot Of People at Lit are FRom New York and maybe someone will Recognize her?? I pray so..:(

I pray they find her Mom, but only if she is willing to give her daughter a good home. Poor little innocent children... some people aren't fit to be parents. What a beautiful child...it's heartbreaking.

{{{ Courtney  }}} Prayers to her for a good life full of love and safety.

I hope that Courtney finds a great mom. If her birth mother is not looking for her, perhaps that is not the place for her.

It might be that everyone in her family thinks she's with her father and safe.

YES INDEED we should all say a prayer that she's in good hands ,regardless......how can someone ever ever abandon their child??:(

praying courtney find a good home or her mom what a shame
I hope someone can id here

I saw something on the 11 o'clock news that her mother has come forward and said the father took her 2 years ago, but they are still trying to figure out who has guardianship of her. I'm sure there will be more info in the weeks to come as to what really happened.

I hope everything works out for her and that she is re-united with her mother...
