My 16 year old daughter wants her bellbutton pierced, should I let
her do it or not?

Yes.

IF...she has it done at a reputable place and also if she is responsible enough to take care of it. It needs to be kept cleaned and the ring can't be removed for some time. You know your daughter better than anyone here. I think they are cute and sexy.

Whew .... My daughter's only 18 months old ... I've got a while before I have to make that decision :)

I wouldn't think it a bad thing to let her do it ... just watch out, you may have to draw the line when she asks again for a tounge piercing LOL

It takes six months for a button to heal, and you have to care for it religiously during that time. And I can tell you from experience that an infescted belly button is less fun than having six root canals at once.
If she is mature enough to handle the care involved, then sure, let her. Piercings are great because they are less permanent than tatoos.
Just make sure you find a reputable piercer, and also find out about the laws in your state. Here in Mass I believe you have to be eighteen to be pierced anywhere other than your ears, regardless of parental consent.

def. YES!! it is one of the best, easiest piercing i have....i love mine..and it's easy to take care of...just make sure you do the things the other people said...a good piercer is key...<is that how you spell piercer..i don't know..anyway..you know what i mean>

:p

It is a bit easier to get infected than some piercings, but i'd go for it. I knew a guy with 28 piercings in his face alone, and he'd never gotten an infection, because he took care of them right.

Like people said, once its healed you can always take it out whenever you don't want to be pierced, unlike a tattoo.

I would say no to it.......because of the higher responsibility
of taking care of it.....more of a risk than getting your
ears pierced, that was painful enough. If I were in your
shoes, I'd have her wait til at least 18, and see if she
wants it then......trends like belly button piercings come
and go......

however, I would suggest a safer alternative.....a
belly button ring that just "clips" on the belly button,
and its not pierced (just like they have those "clipon
earrings" for those ears that aren't pierced).
