See my av? The green face? Yuck.

I need to "stencil," according the the set designer I"m working for, this face/medallion onto the set, about 2 dozen times, as a wallpaper. (It's for a production of The Miser so just don't ask - I just paint shit.) :)

Are there any artists around with suggestions?

My alternative is to try to make it 12 inches tall, print it out, take it to Kinkos, and get them to make me numerous copies... Which would take time, and money, and I'd have to get reimbursed.... whereas, painting it on the set myself, I get paid by the hour.

You can see which choice I prefer!

Soooo - help????

Have you considered silk-screening? Lithography might work, too.

If you go with a stencil, rather than cutting every detail, just do the larger areas with a stencil and add details with brushwork.

LOL

Phrodeau -

you are far too cool! Let me give more detail: It's for a college production, I have one day and one or two students to put to work on making a stencil, and applying it.

I"m thinking, cut out the whole area, paint in the base green, sponge in some dark dabs for hair and laurel wreath at bottom, and then a stencil cut out of darks for eyes, lips, eyebrows, that kind of detail.. what do you think? and maybe a sponge over that for a break up?

it has to look ok from 40' away.

"Dont' make it perfect - make it done."

There is the rest of the set to do, too!

Digital photo...outline it in Illustrator...print a transparency...use an overhead projector to throw it up on the wall...paint over shadows....or print a tranny, cut the pattern with an xacto and brush it on.

Sounds good. Make sure the "whole area" stencil is on a panel with square corners, so they can be aligned and spaced evenly. If they aren't, it will really show at 40'.

LANCE!

You are my hero... sort of ... I forgot I had tranparency paper here at home.. bought a box at the thrift store for $1 a while ago... I'm such a packrat.

I could print it onto transparency tonite.

The only program I have is irfanview, which Weird Harold recommended for av resizing.

It seems to have trouble processing making things BIGGER.

Give me a few, I'll post the so-called painters elevation I have for this part of the set. It'll clarify my headache and lack of need of detail and clarity. I just need a way to paint lots of these, 1' tall, on walls, which will read ok from 40' to 100' away.

this is what the wall wants to look like:

Dark wainscotting, pale scrummy old walls, with the medallion repeated, but not big and obvious - somewhat blending in, I think is the idea. I haven't actually talked to the designer on this - I came in for today & tomorrow to help the student catch up. The school's theater dept. is mostly performanced based.

Aligning will be trickier with an overhead. Proceed with care.

Looks like Pho's the TimeKing on the fix, WG. Debbie TRavis' Painted House must have a web site....she'd know what to do!

Sighhhhhhhhh.

Sorry, Phrodeau - I meant, instead of cutting it out of cardstock, and clear packing tape to seal it up, or laminating and cutting out, I'd just cut it out of transparency paper... which wouldn't turn into paper mush in the wet paint and wiping off that will happen.

Of course I will give the stencil registration marks!

I know how to paint it... I just was hoping someone would tell me a shortcut for the stupid image.. it's not like, red petals, green leaves, kind of stencil - it's all pixely and nasty.

I wish my designer had just given me the book he got it out of, instead of sending me some evil attachment that's not even to scale.

If wishes were horses... we'd have a lot of horseshit.
