Hello all!

I'm a new author here so I thought I would say hi and introduce myself a bit.

For background I wrote a short story of male submission called Ready to Please (https://www.literotica.com/beta/s/ready-to-please). I was really taken aback by the positive response which gave me confidence to continue writing about the progression of the characters. I've had really good feedback on those too which I would like to say thanks for: thank you to anyone who has read one of my stories and felt moved enough to rate or comment on it.

I've never shared any of my writing publicly before for fear of dealing with negative criticism. Creating a separate account name from my usual social media identity really helped overcome that fear. It's like getting a clean slate without the anxiety that the fantasies I was sharing would get crossed over into my every day life. Plus I felt if it went badly I could simply walk away. Liberating!

Anyway, since writing, I've got some very nice private feedback from some readers which has been heart-warming, plus some new ideas and experiences which hopefully will inspire future stories.

I have one question for other authors. My stories feature a submissive male with an oral sex fetish. I put them in the fetish category but I wondered if the bdsm category would have been a better choice. Any thoughts on that?

With warm affection for you all,

sosense.

Well, welcome aboard this little crazy train!

Having a separate username is a good start, just be careful about cross-linking between the accounts. It's incredibly difficult to maintain separation over time.

As to your question, I can't answer it - not something I write about, sorry.

Welcome to the monkey house, Sosense.

Choice of where to put stories is often obvious, but not always.

You describe your character as having an 'oral sex fetish'. When I look at the tale in question, he does indeed spend a lot of time at it. To me, the amount of time is maybe unusual but hardly fetish. Others may disagree. Nor do I see any significantly submissive behaviour in that one (haven't had time to look at the rest). I might consider Erotic Couplings, but it is really up to you.

That's the joy of Lit - choice. Good luck with the writing; hope to see you around.

‘Ello
I read through your story quick, and (personally) I don’t see anything there that would qualify for BDSM, yet. I think the fetish category was a good call for that one, and unless one of your female characters starts going full Domme, I would keep any following chapters there too. Even if one of the ladies starts actually dominating your main character, you may want to leave it in fetish regardless as, from my own experience mind you, I’ve found readers there tend to be more welcoming of all aspects of BDSM stories than the majority of the readers of that titled category.

Welcome.
I just read your first story, and it's very well done (imo). It's evocative, well written, and an interesting premise. As far as BDSM vs. fetish, I'd say, put them wherever makes sense to you. If the story emphasizes the power dynamic more, it might be appropriate for BDSM. But if it emphasizes the cunnilingus more, I guess that would be more of a fetish.

This essay is considered by many to be a good authority on deciding which category to pick: Love Your Readers - Categories, and may be helpful.

The Author's Hangout is generally a welcoming place, so please feel free to stop by with questions, comments, conundrums, or regular goofiness.
It's nice to meet you, sosense.

Welcome to Lit! It's good to meet you!

I read your story, and like the others, saw nothing to indicate it would belong in BDSM. The comments are all positive (rightly so - you write well), which is usually a good sign that you're in the right category.

Best of luck as you continue your journey here! I have been writing here for just over a year, and it's been quite an interesting experience. There are some terrific people here!

Thanks everyone. Sounds like I was right to put it in Fetish.

Looking forward to spending more time here!

Hello there.

As for your questions, at this point, the Fetish catagory has more readers than BDSM, so it should be best to stick with Fetish.

Welcome. May your positive experience in participating in Literotica continue.

Welcome aboard, sosense. Pleased to hear that your work is being well received.

Welcome! Congrats on your stories, it’s lovely to know they’re being well received :rose:

You're going to get criticism regardless of what screen name you have. If you wanted to use an alt to post shit people wouldn't expect you to, I can see that... but out of fear? I own all of my shit, on this name that I have used for over ten years.

Not everyone has that option available. For instance, religious leaders and teachers would almost certainly face career-damaging (if not -ending) complications if they were linked to a Lit author account with 'adult' content published.

I own all my shit here too. But I do so at arm's length, under a pseudonym.

Welcome sosense!

I am a newer author as well. I just recently published my second story. I never thought I would write here, but I find it's a great outlet and I am thoroughly enjoying it.

As far as your question goes, what category do you think it best represents? Do you think it would be more related to BDSM since he is submissive, or are you focusing more on the fetish?

Thanks! I just read your new story and I love how it's written. If only I could get that depth of need across in my own!

The way my story series is developing the dom/sub theme has becoming stronger but it's still fairly soft so I think I'll keep it in the fetish category for now.

Thank you for the positive feedback :)

I imagine that if you are building up the D/s theme slowly and shift it to BDSM later on, your readers will follow.
