I just wanted to introduce myself, I didn't find a thread for introductions so I hope it's ok to post one here. :)
I have been writing for about 7 years, well more consistently in the last 3 years. Everything is in long hand due to my bad luck with computers :(. I guess I'm old school and prefer long hand anyway.
I just joined a few days ago and been so taken with all the great work from several authors I've managed to read on a binge.
I love being around creative minds!
I am planning on posting my work here, upon perving around, I feel comfortable. I am a virgin when it comes to posting stories online ;)

Have any of you ever felt intimidated before you released your stories?

A welcome  for the little newbie from the good little witch.

Welcome!

And it's your lucky day. that's because the

2015 Valentines Day Contest

sponsored by the

ASSOCIATION of INDEPENDENT READERS (A.I.R.)

is still accepting entries and any story you submit to the LITEROTICA site this week will be automatically entered in the contest.

Good Luck!

Welcome to the AH!

Long hand? I hope you have good penmanship for when you type them out to post here.

I think everyone feels a case of nerves when you post a story for the first time. Its like laying yourself bare.

Just don't get discouraged if you get the troll comments telling you, you suck, there's a lot more good feedback than bad here and the more you post the faster you'll build a good audience for your work.

Best of luck here.

Welcome to the madhouse.

You might want to go ahead and put scouries and his alt scouriesworld on ignore. His contests, list, and awards are all fake bullshit. There is no such thing as AIR unless scouries considers himself an association. With his ego and bullshit, I wouldn't doubt it.

I was also looking for introduction thread, and didn't find it! So I well copy cat on this one. I have been writing erotica for about 4 years. I have almost no talent for written most on subjects. With erotica, the stories seem to take me over and write themselves.

Recently I have dabbled in poetry, mostly to work out my own demons and worries.

One thing I have noticed on this site, is a lot of negative trolls. That are almost always anonymous. The are pretty mean. However, talking to someone who ha a been on This site for a while, told me not to stress. It means my written is good.

I always feel anxious when posting. What if everyone hates it? The piece of me I put out there.

Thank you for starting this thread.

Welcome to both of you! I think you'll find the AH board tends to be pretty helpful and positive. Do read the rules before you submit anything, it can prevent several headaches.

Absolutely. Everyone feels that way.

I'm an obsessive editor. I don't like the idea of people seeing something I worked on without it being absolutely perfect; that becomes an ongoing excuse to never expose it for fear of rejection.

In this case, ignore that instinct and throw it out there. You'll be glad you did! You can't keep moving forward as a writer without some kind of outside feedback.

Don't take any criticism personally. Anonymity breeds a lack of responsibility, and there are many anonymous commenters, both here and in the real world. Realize that most people that come to read your story are not grand literary critics and are here for personal entertainment. If they dislike your work, they can react quickly, harshly, and then be gone in an instant to find something else. Don't internalize this as a reflection of your abilities.

If people do take time to write you positive messages or good criticism (even if it is blunt and a little bruising) be sure to thank them. While the comments come up with a single click, people out there decided they wanted to communicate their thoughts to you. Be sure to appreciate each one as the vital resource that it is.

Good luck to you in your writing!

good luck to you

I wrote my first story before I registered on the site, simply because I wanted to be certain I could write something I was prepared to submit. So I certainly understand first story anxiety.

Of course you'll have to convert your stories from longhand into computer text... which we know you can do, because you started this thread.

I once had a girlfriend who spent much of her day writing in a journal; it contained her most private reflections on her most intimate moments. She told me that she wanted to have it published posthumously. To the best of my knowledge, she never did make the transition to computers; last time I saw her, she was still going to the lounge, sipping wine, and writing in her journal. Must be tens of thousands of pages by now.

Good luck!

Welcome to the loony bin. Just have fun. Never take anything too seriously.

Ignore the Scouries person, he's actually harmless, but a real pain in the ass.

Other than that...just have fun.

Welcome to both of you. :)

I look forward to reading your stories.

This is a fun community - although there are a couple of strange members. But, hey, isn't that the way it works wherever you go?

Welcome to the funny farm. Be careful what you step in.

Writing longhand? Even though I took my first typing class in 1963 and have keyboarded ever since, I still occasionally write longhand. Not like my dad's Palmer cursive; no, I'm more into block letters, residue from drafting and cartography classes. Hmm, that could lead to an interesting author's poll on writing styles: Printed characters or handwriting? Pencil or pen, black or coloured? Plain, ruled or grid paper? Journal, notepad, continuous roll? Extra points for those writing on a tablet with character recognition. Loss of points for those dictating into a voice transcription system.

Meanwhile, just Ignore the trolls, dorks and flamers here. Have fun.

I had the opposite experience. Once I began teaching in 1997, (before smart boards) it became imperative to improve my handwriting, so I have become consistently better.

Thank you all for the advice! :). I read the forums before I posted and had seen Scouries advertisement everywhere and the comments that came with it lol. As for the sites' contest I am looking at the rules right now, this should be fun!

Welcome. I think everyone is a little nervous about posting the first one. Don't worry just go for it.

Don't worry honey. I'm a new to online writing myself. I've been writing fan fiction/slash fiction and drawing comics since I was a child. I have been writing full stories (at least 2-20 pages) since I was 18. I love it.

Remember as Stephen Spielberg once said when asked about why his films were so popular.

"I can't say why they strike such a chord with people. I just make the film that I'd like to see. That's all you can do. The moment I think you try to go "oh I'll make this because it'll be popular" is the totally wrong thing to do. If you love what you're doing - someone else will too."
