Took the bike out for a short ride this morning. The sky was clear and the sun was just chinning it's way over the horizon as we fired up the bike and climbed aboard. We were planning a short ride. Head to a nearby bakery and have breakfast then tank up the bike and head for home.

Well the first part went right. We hit the bakery and stuffed ourselves with pastries and good strong coffee. From there we rode the short distance to the gas station and filled the tank.

It was truly beautiful out. The temps were running right around 71° with no wind. My wife looked at me as I closed up the tank and we didn't have to say a thing. We hopped the bike and headed west for a bit until we picked up a low speed highway. I kicked the bike up through the gears as we ran north and west without a traffic light or a car in sight. We stopped once, to refill the tank and stretch after 100 miles. Again we were off until we finally pulled off in a small town we have been meaning to visit just because of it's name.

Talk about a nice little redneck town. Sited on the shore of a lazy river it's a trip back in time to the old Florida. We strolled through the town and visited the few little shops there. Ahh how we loved this. We even visited a nice little old style diner for a meal of Country Fried Steak and Mashed Potatoes with plenty of Gravy. Of course this was washed down with plenty of sweet tea.

Finished with lunch and full to the brim we found a shady spot along side the river and rested up for the ride home. Again we topped off the tank and climbed aboard and started for home.

The same ride we had followed to get out there but reversed. We're talking nice long sweepers and gentle hills running through the scrub lands. The sun was now shining down with a vengance but the breeze the bike made kept us cool enough to be comfortable. This time there were more cars accompanied by the not so occasional truck but I didn't mind. I was having a blast.

Every now and then I could feel my wife giving my shoulder a squeeze. Every now and then I could feel her shift slightly behind me. If she wanted to say something, which she did every now and then she would lean forward and say it. If I needed to say something I would lean back a bit and turn my head to say it. At the fill up stop we did our stretching and hit the litter boxes to keep things comfortable. After filling the gas tank and draining a couple of bottles of water we were off again.

Finally after several hours we pulled into the parking area at home. Both of us were slightly tired but smiling like fools as we climbed off the bike and peeled off our gear. Talk about heaven.

Used to do things like that in my Triumph Spitfire. Especially when stationed in Norfolk. Might end up in DC, Charlotte, or some little backwoods place, who cared. It is real close to heaven. :D
