"He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother"---tribute to FDNY, NYPD, PAPD, & other rescuers

He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother
Written by B. Scott and B. Russell
The road is long
With many a winding turn
That leads us to who knows where
Who knows when
But I'm strong
Strong enough to carry him
He ain't heavy, he's my brother
So on we go
His welfare is of my concern
No burden is he to bear
We'll get there
For I know
He would not encumber me
He ain't heavy, he's my brother
If I'm laden at all
I'm laden with sadness
That everyone's heart
Isn't filled with the gladness
Of love for one another
It's a long, long road
From which there is no return
While we're on the way to there
Why not share
And the load
Doesn't weigh me down at all
He ain't heavy, he's my brother
He's my brother
He ain't heavy,
he's my brother...

This works for me too. Which version? I think there's the Osmonds, the Hollys (sp?), Neil Diamond, etc.

That's me up there. Got bumped out of here again for some strnge reason.

That's okay......

I was referring to both the Hollies version and the Neil
Diamond version in this case :)

Both good versions.

Don't tell anyone, but I'm a little more partial to the Neil Diamond version. [said in a whisper]

That's okay......Neil Diamond is a good artist......I saw him
w/ my parents in concert at Madison Square Garden in
'93, and he really puts on an awesome show. I know
quite a few people in my age bracket turn their noses up
at him, but he does do some real good songs.

Thanks, didn't want to sound like too much of an old fogie. I'm still in denial. I saw him in concert in the late 80s. He does put on a great show.

TJ......................

On 9/11/2001 there were many people that responded to the needs of others in the true tradition of being a real American. One of the truly great things about Americans and I'm talking about the people not the goverment. GOD only knows that the goverment doesn't have a slight clue and doesn't really represent the real American's in this country any way. These people value there friends and nieghbors more than thier own lives. There was no heisitation. No second thoughts. As a ex soldier I salute the N.Y.P.D., the N.Y.F.D., and the countless other that were there.

To the faceless cowards that attacked this country! You will be huntered until ever one of your are put to death. Your demise will be by the hands of real Americans.

To these faceless cowards I would like to share one thought:

*** YOU DON'T MESS WITH THE U.S.!!! *** :D :D :D

Thank you so much!

I have that on a 45 that an Army recruiter gave me a few months before I enlisted into the Marine Corps...

The Hollies...I do so love that song! I think I'll break it out later and spin it a time or three on the old turntable I bought in '84.

I'd forgotten that song until now, and you just reminded me of a favorite that carried me through many a tough time.

Others with Grief

In the rush to console those directly affected by the events at the twin towers, we should not forget that many people suffer losses every day, here in the United States and abroad. There have been over 13 terroist attacks in the past year.

There have been 11 police officers killed in the line of duty in California alone in the past year.

There are many people who need our support.

Life is dangerous, we need help carry others all of the time.

Yes the New York City firefighters, police officers and other rescue personnel are heroes, no question. But there are firefighters, police officers and rescue workers all over the country. They are also heroes. They risk their lives every day. On July 4 in New Jersey three firefighters rushed into a burning house because they saw 3 children trapped. The house collapsed and killed all 6. Those firefighters left behind wives and children. I recently saw an interview with a NYC firefighter who said the only act of courage a firefighter ever performs is when he takes his oath. The rest is part of the job. If you're looking for heroes don't look to athletes, movie stars or musicians, look to those who keep us safe.

Well said here too!!! All rescue personnel, whether it be firefighter,
police officer, EMTs, etc........are very valuable to our society and
communities........and are heroes in their own way.........
