Having problems with this one

Hi people. I have a story I've written and submitted. It was sent back as breaching the guidelines, but I'm not sure which one(s). Currently, I have 37 other stories published, so I'm fairly certain it's not the formatting that is a problem. May I ask if someone can read it and see what they think the problem is? Regards, JohnMurray

The rejection notice should have a number of questions or comments which will outline the issues. Address those, and resubmit.

There are a set of generic rejection notices, so you should have something to work with.

Yes, I read through them, and don't think my story breaches any of the guidelines. Which is why I'm asking for help. Thank you, though. Regards JohnMurray

Can we know which guidelines its breaking?
It sounds like several, rather than just one?

I've never had a story rejected on this site, but it's happened to me (three times, I think) on another site. Those people were very specific about what the reason was.

I've heard that Lit can be a bit vague about what the rejection is about, and they may not walk you through what they want. (Possibly a bot found it, anyway, and we assume they use bots.) Usually rejections are based on age restrictions or non-consent issues. (Their policy on non-consent is weird - why even have the category? - but it is what it is.) I think too many grammatical errors (spelling, among other things) might get you bounced. Beyond that, did you name any public figures in an unflattering light?

How long is this thing? If it's not too long (I don't know, 6,000 words, 8,000 words?) I guess I could have a look at it. I suppose the method is that I would send you a PM ("conversation") which has a box for my email address if I chose to include it. If you just have the file, I think you would have to send it to me that way. Is it in Word? It has to be in some format I can access.

It doesn't tell me. It only lists the guidelines and suggests I read them, amend, and re-submit. I've had 37 other stories published, so it's not formatting. It doesn't include under age or bestiality, so I'm unclear which other one I'm breaking.

It's close to 30,000 words, sorry.

It's in the non-consent category and it's quite graphic, but I've been unable to find a specific instruction on what's allowable and what isn't. I've had 37 other stories published, so I doubt it's grammatical as it matches my other stories.

Wow, did you do all that as single submission? Usually I'd break something like that into at least three chapters in a series, assuming I could find break points. I don't know, let me think about it. I would probably only be able to skim it.

You probably could find a volunteer editor who does this a lot.

You also my find some random person in the Story Feedback section who would look at it.

Non-consent is one of the trickiest categories because no one knows what the rules are. Even the site is not that clear on the topic. For something that long, it may have been rejected by bots long before the (presumably) happy ending. Is there something like a clearly non-consensual rape or other contact in the first half? That might get you booted.

I have been having a "conversation" with the moderator in the comments box. Because I have had one of my stories rejected.
If resubmit and ask the question in the notes box. They are kind enough to just about hint where the problem is.
I've had the same story rejected several times now, but I am getting closer to the problem...

I did look (partially) at the other Non-consent story you did get through in May. So the male prisoner in that is sort of - enjoying? - the sexual abuse he's getting from the staff, including at least one female employee. (Is there another woman after page 2?) I guess it passed because he seems to like the very first encounter.

So, is your new story mostly about a female getting abused by men? The other one is mostly, although not entirely, about male on male contact. It may not make sense, but that may be a factor in allowing that one to pass. The site's owner is female, and she may have some opinion on such matters. (I know little about her.) Pure speculation because I don't know what you wrote this time.

Non consent rejections usually get down to the policy requirement that the victim must eventually get some satisfaction from the sexual activity being performed without their consent.

If there's graphic violence, the story might also be pushing the line of gratuitous sexual violence with no real relevance to the story.

Sounds like you need to read your story again, dispassionately, and think about every sentence from another reader's point of view, a reader who doesn't share your kink for whatever it is you're describing.

I did try resubmitting the story with a note asking for help as to which guideline(s) I'd breached, but it just sat in the pending area without being bounced or passed. Much as it is now. I will take your advice and try again, thanks.

I think you've got it right. The abused does come to enjoy her abuse, but it is quite a long way into the story. If I can't get this story accepted as it is, I will try rewriting so the person being abused finds pleasure earlier.

Thanks for looking. I think the violence is much more graphic in my Prison Bitch story, but, you're right. In most cases, in that story, the abuse comes after the main character has had pleasure, and the abused is male. The new story is about a woman who has been kidnapped and subjected to pain experiments to see if she can be forced to enjoy it.

I was just guessing, but your description of the story might reveal the problem. It's not consistent, perhaps, but if the woman to doesn't feel pleasure fairly close to if not at the beginning, that's probably enough to get it bounced. Also, it sounds like she must be in bondage of some sort from the beginning. while the other character is sort of physically restrained, I guess, but not with ropes or whatever. (I didn't read the last two pages.)

You may not be able to fix that unless you want to rewrite it it drastically. Or, you probably could take it elsewhere. I could PM you a site that might accept it. (And no, guys, it's not the notorious one who may be thinking of.)

Yes, please. That would be awesome. I think this story is one of the best ones I've written and I'd hate to have to drastically change it.

Okay, I sent a message about it. I also offered to help you submit there because the software is old and quirky.

Thank you.

Thank you.
I should mention that I sent you what I think is a private message from your profile contact box. There is a "conversation" option in the task bar at the top of the forums. It seems that the latter is a new option (this year) I think, and everything used to be private messages. Anyway, you are welcome to use the email address I included.

There's nothing showing anywhere yet, does it take some time to come through?

Okay, I'll send it via a "conversation," which should show up if you click the envelope symbol on the right side of the blue bar at the top of the forums. Not sure why the other message didn't get through, but there have been some software glitches in this site as they attempt to "modernize."

The envelope should say "conversations" as you - what is it called, hover? - your cursor over the symbol. They could make these things a bit more user-friendly.
