I can do paragraphs from each person's perspective. Nobody is left out that way.

Of course it would be easier for me if the neighbor could throw in some comments from her side to help me out. But lacking that, I can just fake it.

I'm split between 1st and 3rd person. The story angle seems to dictate which POV should be used. In this story, I definitely agree with you; 3rd person is the way to go. I'd personally use 3rd person limited omniscient. This will keep the flavour of 1st person, but will allow you to comment on other action besides that which the POV character has direct knowledge of. But by limiting perception and mind-delving to one character only, unity and immediacy will be preserved.

Doesn't all this depend on what sort of effect you want. The POV of the second person does let you get that you are there feeling -- though it might be harder to do well.

2nd person POV tends to alienate and annoy people. I've only read two such stories that were even remotely well executed. Unless your talent borders on genius, stay away from that POV. The voice is too pompous, too presumptuous, to ever be truly effective.
