Hey all~

Uhm, I'll get right to the point, the other day I've started spotting, its really dark. When I go pee, it looks normal in the toilet, but when I wipe or in my underpants, the dark is there.

I really don't want to have to see the gyno unless I absolutly have to. I am on the pill, and I had break through bleeding a few days after my last period and it went away after a couple days. Could it be that a second time? Or maybe I'm just starting my period in an odd way? I am getting close to starting again.

Any advice or information would be loved, thanks all<3

Is there any chance you could be pregnant? Only it could be an implantation bleed.

You say you're on the pill with no chance of pregnancy?
If that's the case, some birth control pills are very sensitive to timing. Are you taking them regularly at the same time daily? For certain brands, as little as 15 minutes can make a difference. If it's not taken really regularly, you can get spotting as a result of the hormone mixups.

That makes sense. Off bleeding makes sense to me, the fact that its dark is the only really thing that bothers me^^'

And I take it because I get super bad cramps otherwise, so I take them so I don't have to suffer the pain>< Before I took it, if I was at work I would be curled up in the back room begging my mom to come in because i couldn't do it and that i was going to be sick.

I'm very bad about being on time, so that's probably it.

I wouldn't worry about the color. I've had that happen before when I didn't know they were so sensitive. The color ranged from light tan to dark brown, with no shades of red. The fact that it's dark or brown just means it's old blood that didn't get out during your last period. No harm done if you're not having sex, just annoying.

Ah wonderful~ I gotta keep it from my mom though. She'll freak if she knows i'm bleeding again and demand I go to the gyno~

Thank you so much for your help!

yeah, don't worry about the color; I'm not on birth-control or having sex and my period always starts off dark brown.

Nothing to worty aboutx i'm a nurse, women bleed mensrually in all colors and ammounts. Spotting is normal too, unless it happens continuously.

I'm sorry to say you do need to go to your doctor if you're bleeding when you're not supposed to (like after the break/placebo pill period). You probably need a different pill. I had this problem before and simply need to switch pills. It'll probably just be a "talking" appointment, unless your doctor feels an exam is necessary for some reason.

Dark/old blood shouldn't mean anything, but it doesn't hurt to ask while you're at the doctor.

Which pill are you on now? Is it monophasic or triphasic?

Granted I'm not female but best bet is to call your Dr.'s office and tell the nurse what is happening and if there's a reason to go see. Even a Dr. on here can't give you more than general info because they don't know your medical history.

2 things that caught my eye in this comment

1 Bleedding again-If this is an ongoing issue there could be a bigger issue and delaying the diagnosis can make treatment more difficult if not impossible.

2 Mom is concerned for your health knows your and the family medical history so if she wants you to go to the Dr. there's a reason for it.

Some things that could cause this

1 If you did get pregnant while on the pill, which can happen. It is not 100% effective, my mom was on the pill when I was concieved. There are several things that could have gone wrong possibly being life threatening and requireing surgery. Like cancer among others. So call your Doctor. It's better you go for nothing than you don't go and it's something.

It sounds to me that your hormones are a little out of whack - something similar happened to me. That being said, my doctor checked it out several times and verified it.

However, I'm echoing that you really should go see a doctor. S/He'll be able to rule out any medical condition, and the next time if this happens, you'll know EXACTLY what's going on.

It's like having your first yeast infection confirmed. The doctor verifies this, so the next time, you don't have to wonder what's going on and know how to handle it.

Sometimes the body reacts to hormones in different ways; only a medical professional can determine if how your body is reacting is normal for you.

This is the wrong place to get this question answered.

Go to the doctor without your mom there, if you're worried about her reaction. It's probably nothing to worry about, but what if it's not? Are you going to put your health in the hands of people who don't know anything about you?

That's true.

Last month I went in for a skin cancer check because I'm very fair, have a lot of moles, and I just had a feeling I needed to get them looked at. The doctor commented that usually people don't start getting checked until they're 40 (I just turned 30).

If I had waited those 10 years or relied on advice from strangers, I might have died, or at least I would have gone through much more than having a chunk of tissue removed from my back a couple of weeks ago.

My yearly appointment is coming up, so when my mom goes in Monday she's going to ask about me changing doctors *Because the lady who did my very first exam last year made the experiance hell* and then i'll call once I have the appointment and talk about going in early or to talk to that gyno about whats been going on so they know my concerns.

So I ask one more question now that I am going to go in, I know that no matter what it will not be good, but is there anything I can do to make it more comfortable when I have my exam?

I would recommend going to the doctor. I had the same thing happen, odd bleeding and darker and turned out to be a cluster of cysts which were bursting. Not fun and very painful.

IIRC, you received a ton of awesome advice in this thread you started, and most of it still applies. Again, talk to the nurse first, tell her about your bad experience and ask her to let the doctor know you need some TLC. Ask the doctor to explain what s/he's doing, be extra gentle and give you tips on how to relax. For instance, the doc might say something like, "Take a deep breath now because I'm going to part your labia and gently insert the speculum. As it goes in, breathe out and relax your muscles." Or maybe the nurse could hold your hand and talk to you to distract you.

Like sex and relationships, a comfortable exam often hinges on good communication with the staff. If you don't know you're fearful and tense, they may not know to do anything to help you with those things because pelvics are no biggie for a lot of women.

Thanks for re-linking that to me, it did help a bit^-^

sounds like you need to just take it on a solid time schedule, but absolutly ask about it again when you go in. And make sure to get a different doc ;)

I agree with the poster who mentioned taking them on time. Some of the BC pills known as "mini pills" tend to have a higher incidence of btb(break through bleed) and pregnancy if not taken at exactly the same time daily. I set an alarm on my cell to go off at the same time daily....that is when I took my pill.

Also, if you take them "continuous" or 3 packs at a time then a period, you can have btb. Especially when first starting that regimen. Your body needs time to adjust to the hormones the 1st 3 months of any BC you use.

After those 1st 3 months are up, it should settle down. You may occasionally have btb. Most bc thins the lining of your uterus so you will notice lighter shorter periods as time goes on. But because of this, your uterine lining can get "cracks" in it and cause some btb occasionally. It is only dark because it is new blood. Basically you had a bleed somewhere and it is coming right out, vs "old" in your system.

2 other things can cause btb. Ovulation, and nabothian cysts. Nabothian cysts are small mucous filled cysts on your uterus. They can rupture and cause bleeding. It will be bright red due to the cervix having such a good blood supply.

If it continues and you are concerned.....or develop pelvic pain, nausea, vomiting, fever.....call your OB/GYN.

Ugh, birth control pills are so bad for me. What's funny is the only birth control I tried that I could tolerate well was Depo, which is usually the worst. I can't wait to get back on it. I hate having periods!
