Have you written about something sexual and then been inspired to try it in real life?

So I guess that could go from as plain vanilla as a new position, to trying BDSM, to a threesome, to same-sex encounters… the kink is the limit.

For me, it’s normally the other way round. I write about stuff I have done (either explicitly or by relying on my experiences to inform what my characters do). The one exception I can think of is an unfulfilled one.

I went through a period of watching pre-op female transsexuals with girls (porn that is, not with binoculars). I wrote a story about it. I’m not sure how I would have even started to go about it, but I think I might have liked to try that IRL. But I started dating my boyfriend while I was still writing the story, so it’s not going to happen now. I think the craving to find out has abated as well.

Have you - unlike me - followed through on something like that?

I can only dream!

Emily, you're spending a lot of time on AH! Then I get pulled into it. ;) As Michael Corleone would say, "Every time I feel like I'm out, they drag me back in." Or as he might say, "In ten years the Corleone Family will be completely out of Author's Hangout." Like that would ever happen!

Female pre-op transsexuals means females to males, I think? How about the ones (a lot, I don't want to guess the number) who forgo surgery as too expensive, too dangerous, or whatever the reason?

I'm like you in that it goes the other way - the things I write are influenced by previous experiences. I can't say it's ever gone the other way.

The gender mentioned for a transsexual is always the gender they identify as. So female pre-op means male to female, still with male genitals.

Thank you for clearing that up. Since I have you here, do you have an stats on what percentage do have surgery? I suppose it varies according to which direction the person identifies with.

Does living as a threesome count? I wish I had done it earlier but the planets never aligned right.

I like old films, but that’s one (three) I have never watched.

I get my nomenclature messed up. Not my area of expertise.

The only things that I haven't tried (that come to my mind) is a MFF and Scat.

I very much want to have a FFM, and absolutely no desire for scat.

My ex LOVED golden showers.
It was awkward the first few times that I urinated on her
The way I describe it is that water-sports can be fun, but it’s not a top ten activity. Don’t do it with my boyfriend and can’t say I miss it that much.

I've always been open minded when it comes to sex, so I gave it a try.
It was just something that I ended up doing, just because she loved it.

No, but I've tried out a few things in anticipation of writing about it.

I've noticed that before. At one time you could do almost any random line from the first two movies ("Michael, we're bigger than U.S. Steel")* and everybody would know which character it was and what the context of the quote was. Obviously, those days are over..

* Just for the record, it was Hyman Roth (Lee Strasberg) at his birthday party in Havana, 1959. Yeah, who is Lee Strasberg?

My parents used to have a copy of Halliwell's Movie Guide. In the 70s, one fat volume could cover every English-language film ever released. A dedicated movie buff might have seen them all, possibly. By the 90s, it was two huge volumes, and just as well CDs and then the internet came out - no idea if it's still around, now that IMDb exists.

I remember when I was about 10, realising I'd never read every book in the world. It was sadder being about 30 and realising I'd never read all the good books I wanted to read.

In my stories I don't think I've put in any sex acts I haven't done, but there's a lot of expensive booze I haven't drunk, holidays I haven't had and restaurants I haven't eaten in. And certainly some characters based on real people who I've never done anything sexual with.

You can log out any time you like, but you can never leave...
Yeah, I've got to do eat and do the dishes too. Plus I'm supposed to be writing. I also have a copy of Bukowski's Hollywood to read. The library didn't have it, so I just ordered it from Amazon.

Do you mean just the books in English or those translated into English? There's a lot more than that. I guess if I could have a super-power, it would be to speak and read every language in the world. Well, the top 100 would do.

FWIW, there are several different kinds of surgery that trans people can get. "Top surgery" = breasts, "bottom surgery" = genitals, then there are a bunch of other possibilities e.g. reducing an Adam's apple, changing facial structure, etc. I assume you're asking about bottom surgery here.

I don't have a cite handy, but IIRC for trans women (MtF) only about 50%, maybe less, end up getting bottom surgery. There are a range of reasons for that, mostly boiling down to legal obstacles, inability to afford it, and/or not prioritising it.

Maybe that last reason can be important. I'm just guessing, but some people may be happy enough with the way they are physically. Perhaps there are stats/surveys on that too.
