"Have You Seen Her" by The Chi-lites

Tonight, while watching TV, I caught a sight of a woman that brought the fluttering feeling in my stomach.

It was the girl that I wanted to marry in high school. We dated in high school and I bought her a wedding ring when I joined the Army.

I had never loved a girl before. She was the daughter of a preacher. My family sold White-Lighting. My mother warned me about girls. I told her that she was the daughter of a preacher, and my mother told me that preacher's daughters were worse. I really loved this chick.

I thought about seachering for her, but its been over 20 years. Wow! She looked the same. She didn't grow old and fat. Her face was smooth and just a bit darker than mine, and her hair was pressed and pulled back from her face.

Unforturnately, they are having troubles. Not as a couple, but racial attacks. "KKK" was spray painted on their property and the property was damaged. Her husband sounded like I suspected, being from the same neck of the woods that I'm form. He declared the vandals cowards for sneaking around at night. He dared them to face him. I felt proud for her.

I didn't tell my wife why I wanted to watch the news, she figured that it was because it was about racial attacks in an area near where I work.

I wonder, how many times have I passed her by....

Have You Seen Her
The Chi-lites

(spoken)

One month ago today
I was happy as a lark
But now I go for walks
To the movies - maybe to the park

And have a seat on the same old bench
To watch the children play (huh)
You know, tomorrow is their future
But to me, just another day

They all gather around me
They seem to know my name
We laugh, tell a few jokes
But it still doesn't ease my pain

I know I can't hide from a memory
'Though day after day I've tried
I keep sayin' she'll be back
But today again I lied

(Sung)
Oh, I see her face everywhere I go
On the street, and even at the picture show
Have you seen her?
Tell me, have you seen her?

Oh, I hear her voice as the cold winds blow
In the sweet music on my radio
Have you seen her?
Tell me, have you seen her?

Why, oh, why
Did she have to leave and go away [2: oh, yeah]
Oh-oh-oh, I've been used to havin' someone to lean on
And I'm lost
Baby, I'm lost (Oh)

Oh, she left her kiss upon my lips
But left that break within my heart
Have you seen her?
Tell me, have you seen her?

Oh, I see her hand reaching out to me
Only she can set me free
Have you seen her?
Tell me, have you seen her?

Why, oh, why
Did she have to leave and go away [2: oh, yeah]
Oh-oh-oh, I've been used to havin' someone to lean on
And I'm lost
Baby, I'm lost (Oh)

(spoken)

As another day comes to an end
I'm lookin' for a letter or somethin'
Anything that she would send
With all the people I know
I'm still a lonely man
You know, it's funny
I thought I had her in the palm of my hand

Have you seen her
Tell me, have you seen her (tell me, have you seen her?)
Have you seen her
Tell me, have you seen her (tell me, have you seen her?)

This is so true: "I thought I had her in the palm of my hand"

That's an amazing post, Blacksnake.
It's a great song, but- an amazing story as you tell it here :rose:

I want to see her in person. Their home is about six and a half miles from where I sit. I wanted to look in her face so badly.

Some may say...let it go.

When I was in Korea, I suspected that she was seeing the man she is married to. I was barely 18. My love for her was huge. I just feel like I had no closure.

I got in my car and pulled in front of her home. It was like she was so close. I looked at her home. The front poarch reminded me of her parent's home.

Her mother would answer the door and have polite conversation until she came. She would make herself up before she saw me, including lipstick and perfume. We would make-out until her mother came to tell her that it was time for her to come back inside. I didn't go inside during the week.

I wonder if she treated her daughters the same. She has three. Three girls.

I thought about her father. A really big man about 6'4" and well over 200 lbs. A pastor and well respected.

I then thought about her husband, and then I pulled away from her home...

I called and told my sister what had happened and she laughed until she was caughing. I lived and breathe that girl.

When I was in Korea, I a very large painting made of us together from two individual pictures of us. Its easily done in photoshop today, but it was masterful painting skills then. I sent it to her. I also had jackets made with our names on the back with my Army unit's insignia on them, a big bible with our picture on the front and her first name with my last name. I sent her a bigger diamond ring than the one I gave her, and I had a part of my pay sent to her by the Military.

I use to spend every moment I could with her, and I often got butterflies in my stomach when I looked at her.

My sister was chuckling it up.

Snake,

Most of us never completely get over a past love like that. Heck, most of us don't get over crushes, much less intense relationships. My unrequited passion from back then and I stay in touch. I sometimes think about what might have been. But like my wife and I, she and her husband have been together over thirty years. These days, that's pretty remarkable. Sometimes things work out for the best.

With that in mind, here are some more lyrics. The situation it describes isn't exactly like yours, or mine. This is one in which he never had the girl to lose, and it's a country song, but the resolution may be worth considering.

Unanswered Prayers
Written by: - Pat Alger- Larry Bastian - Garth Brooks

Just the other night at a hometown football game
My wife and I ran into my old high school flame
And as I introduced them the past came back to me
And I couldn't help but think of the way things used to be

She was the one that I'd wanted for all times
And each night I'd spend prayin' that God would make her mine
And if he'd only grant me this wish I wished back then
I'd never ask for anything again

Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers
Remember when you're talkin' to the man upstairs
That just because he doesn't answer doesn't mean he don't care
Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers

She wasn't quite the angel that I remembered in my dreams
And I could tell that time had changed me in her eyes too it seemed
We tried to talk about the old days
There wasn't much we could recall
I guess the Lord knows what he's doin' after all

And as she walked away and I looked at my wife
Then and there I thanked the good Lord
For the gifts in my life

Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers
Remember when you're talkin' to the man upstairs
That just because he may not answer doesn't mean he don't care
Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers

Some of gods greatest gifts are unanswered...
Some of God's greatest gifts are all too often unanswered...
Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers
