Have you had trouble sleeping lately?

For eons, man has known that the moon affects us. Hospital labor and delivery halls and emergency rooms become busier during the full moon. Back when I had pregnant mares littering the property, I watched the moon cycles as closely as i watched the mares and almost without fail my mares would drop their foals within 5 days or so of the full moon.

Recently, I saw a blurb on the effects of the Sun's geomagnetic storms that create solar flares on the human condition, so i decided to poke around the net to see what I could find. I found that scientists are studying the effects of solar flares on everything from disrupted circadian rhythms to peak in violence.

Here are examples of the types of articles I have found:

And just a few hours ago NOAA reported that Earth is currently being slammed by the grandaddy of all solar storms — a monster X4-class storm — the biggest of all. “An X4 (Severe) geomagnetic storm was observed today at 9:58 am EDT. This is the response to a pair of CMEs observed leaving the Sun [two days prior] on 15 March.”

Today’s monster geomagnetic storm, and the explosion of solar flares and coronal mass ejections over the past week, have been wreaking havoc on people’s moods, sleeping patterns, and a host of other human health effects. Many people are experiencing disturbances with their circadian rhythms, waking up around 2am and having trouble getting back to sleep. “Solar storms desynchronize our circadian rhythm (biological clock). The pineal gland in our brain is affected by the electromagnetic activity, and [solar storms cause] the gland to produce excess melatonin, the brain’s built in ‘downer’ that helps us sleep. ‘The circadian regulatory system depends on repeated environmental cues to [synchronize] internal clocks,’ says psychiatrist Kelly Posner, Columbia University. ‘Magnetic fields may be one of these environmental cues.’ ”

The type of intense solar activity we’ve been experiencing this week can have serious effects on: the central nervous system, the stomach lining, all brain activity (including equilibrium), along with human behavior and all psycho-physiological (mental-emotional-physical) responses. This can manifest as nervousness, anxiety, worrisomeness, the jitters, dizziness, shakiness, irritability, lethargy, exhaustion, short term memory problems, heart palpitations, nausea, queasiness, prolonged head pressure, and headaches.

One might conclude we humans can be just as solar as we can be lunar. What do you think?

My first reaction was, "woah, how did you know?" As to the validity of that theory, I have no idea.

Peak in violence....so The NFL could blame solar flares for all their thug players issues instead of their teams drafting college thugs and handing them millions and acting surprised when they continue to hurt people...

I am forwarding this to the NFL commish as we speak!

There's a new thread devoted to the idea of women telling men what they're supposed to know, but clearly, these are deeply held secrets not to be shared with us unless it possible to time it in order to make us look stupid. And we walk into it every time.

But we're not losing any sleep over it.

:D

The only thing men need to know about women is women are much like cats. Don't try to understand them, just roll with whatever they do.

Only if you promise to decide at the very end that we already had the optimal arrangement and now you want to move it all back to where it originally was...

;) ;)

<rolls eyes> Is there any other way? besides, how do we know the first way was best if we don't move every piece of furniture to 5-6 different spots just to be sure?

Now that we have established that, I think I'll go buy some new furniture while you take a nap. That old living room furniture is just so drab, don't you agree?

Yes and please buy me a chair that I absolutely hate, is uncomfortable as hell, too heavy to move around, but what the hell, it's leather and you'll save $100...

Oh Oh!! <fidgets excitedly> and it will only fit in the one corner that makes watching TV completely impossible?

What does he have to say about the effect, or lack thereof, of the Sun's electromagnetic storms on humans?
