have race relations in the US deteriorated since obama came to power?

or is the news & lit giving me a false impression of the situation?

if relations have deteriorated, what could be the causes?

What gave you the impression that they were particularly good before?

they looked a bit crap to me before. there seemed to be a sort of subconscious segregation going on, which I found quite unsettling.

but, from the news and from lit, I get the impression that it got worse.

I think so, but I don't blame Obama. I blame the media, any time there is some type of incident the media has done everything it possibly can to stir up a race war.

Yes and no.

Which is what we've seen on Lit.

What caught me unawares is realizing more people focus on race than I thought for.

The President has not improved race relations. Was he supposed to automatically because he is black?

absolutely.

partly due to his supporting racially charged controversial issues ( instead of responding neutrally) and partly by his support of class warfare which intrinsically carries racial distinctions

he's been reckless when he had a chance to mend things like no other president before him.

i'm willing to believe this is a strong possibility. the media is focussed on selling stories, even if it's at the expense of society. we saw it with the entirely media-manufactured autism & vaccines panic.

expand, please?

well, if I were to have placed a bet at the time, I would have put my money on nothing changing. few politicians really make huge changes to society, despite what they claim in their speeches.

It seems to me the different races continue to view each other with some mistrust and suspicion, not just here but in your part of the world as well.

Ahahahahahahahaha!

This nation has always been full of racist cunts. They've just lost their collective shit since 2008.

The only way he could have made them happy was to die on his way to the Inauguration.

each part of the world likely has its own subtle flavours.
what you have isn't the same as what we have.
mostly we're resenting eastern Europeans at the moment.

He has interjected his opinion on many incidences where typically a president would not, usually in a way that did more to inflame the situation than to calm it.

another strong possibility. that some white racists feel like their position of authority on society is under threat, so they are overreacting to situations.

could you give me some examples, please?

stick to the spiders posts, bro
you're good at that

The entire country has deteriorated under The Fraud's watch.

see, race was not an issue in america and even if it had been an issue it should never have been addressed by the president.

by addressing an issue that was never really an issue anyway, he has made it an issue.

so, theory #(I forget):
by shining a spotlight on ace he has mad everyone hyperaware of it, made minorities feel more like victims, made whites feel more resented & hated & threatened?
...or am I misunderstanding your angle?

This is either a broken clock syndrome or the first time I've ever agreed with anything you've said.

All he has done is be black.

It's ridiculous to suggest that the president cannot speak on pressing social issues, including racial problems.

My guess is that no one would have commented on a white president speaking on race issues.

He--and not him individually, he by virtue of being black--seems to permit us to project our own views on the state of affairs between the races whenever we discuss an issue in which he is involved. I'd have thought more of us would have moved past that.

That said, he's a Kenyan. With a rasterized birth certificate.
