Have men just given up?

The way I see it, the peacock either has the plumage or he doesn't. If he does, he shows it. If he doesn't, he fashions what he can from his imagination. Sometimes, that can be enough to fool a worthy hen, sometimes not. But no matter, because the peahen will almost fall back upon her instincts.

You know what happens when the Himalayan peasant meets the he-bear in his stride.

Interesting argument. But if it's in the interests of the human genome to spawn variety, ultimately, utterly predictable.

I love chaos. You can predict anything from it.

Those instincts exist for a reason. Men who are very different biologically usually prove more attractive to women, because introducing diversity into the gene pool is beneficial. An interesting case study proving the inverse would be the House of Habsburg.

Luckily, I am one who believes feminism has gone just a touch too far :)
Still not an excuse for failing to get a partner though ;)

Feminism has gone WAYYYYY too far. It's responsible partly for the social disintegration of Western society IMO.

And what makes you think having a partner is worth a damn in the great scheme of time?

You think those kids of yours are going to resemble you much, genetically, in 10 generation's time?

Blob, you give too much away. But I love you for it. Truly. Intellect is beautiful man.

PoppingT, before I dice you, slice you and throw you to the dogs I will give you ONE chance to explain your comments.

One.

Go.

Why don't you tell ME something about the suspected "traps" of the suspected "amateur psychologist lady"?

I mean, talking about traps in a question to avoid any discussion, while not explaining the traps to anybody...

...that's cowardish. Sorry.

If we spent much time devoted to how our genetic offspring would evolve 10 generations from now, nobody would have kids

Pop, do you possess a sense of humour or are you inclined to believe that everything types is gospel?

Please, my European cousin, don't go wading in halfway through and set yourself up for a fall.

I happen to like a lot of what you say, but this one here, you're about to hang yourself with (if I can be bothered).

Now you get it, sort of.

If the peahen doesn't like what she sees, it's time to move to the next peahen. There's no point in sticking around. His tail feathers aren't going to get any brighter, so why display them for a hen who doesn't know a good deal when she sees it.

There's plenty of stupid peacocks who will keep her busy, just like there are plenty of men who think the woman they know right now is the last woman they'll ever meet.

Ahh, but they would, the reproductive imperative. Makes you go all broody inside.

It's BECAUSE it's instinctive and endorphin-rewarding and thought is not a primary motivator that you fuck in the first place. Think about it (irony intended).

The irony is, that you spend 30-50% of your life bringing up a bag of genes that will become so diluted they won't accurately respresent you in less than 200 years.

It's all true. What the cocks and hens tend to forget is that in the end, they're all still stupid birds.

At one time, a man could knock a woman on the head and drag her home to his cave (or his mom's cave). Then he could buy her. Then he had to start courting her. Then he had to provide for her. Then he had to lure her with things.

Did it just become too difficult? Gay men, men sucking themselves off, basement men, 41% of babies being born without fathers (miraculous!)

Where did it all go wrong?

Yes, Ken, they have.

OK, I forgive you, because you're a Britsk ;)

Why are you making it sound like women are the only ones who want children?

Most of the time, a woman got a deeper relationship to her children than the father.

A lot of people I know think that a child is a luxury thing today. Except for the woman who gets it.
