The way I see it, the peacock either has the plumage or he doesn't. If he does, he shows it. If he doesn't, he fashions what he can from his imagination. Sometimes, that can be enough to fool a worthy hen, sometimes not. But no matter, because the peahen will almost fall back upon her instincts.
You know what happens when the Himalayan peasant meets the he-bear in his stride.
Interesting argument. But if it's in the interests of the human genome to spawn variety, ultimately, utterly predictable.
