So I want to write my first novel. And I think Haunted Lover has a good premise for one.

I respect your thoughts...do you guys agree? I'll expand on what I'm thinking later. I'm running late for work

I tried to summarize the story and could not do a good job of it...it ended up almost as long as the story. So instead I'll discuss some approaches I'm considering...

1. I am thinking of opening with the execution of Claire. Not make it horribly grusome, but have the last thing she thinks of is something to the effect of why did it turn out this way? Then the novel would be a combination of the same general story as the short story interspersed with Claire's story growing up. How did she become Phillipe's mistress, did she love him, was she pregnant (yes) and her growing hate/fascination with Marie. Abby will not operate as the reincarnated Claire (too easy) but instead will serve as the interpreter as to why things happenned and the places where things didn't have to end up the way they did.

OR

2. I was thinking of finding a way to intersperse all the important voices. Phillippe through the diary and the ghost, Marie through letters she wrote him (although I think I'll give Abby the irritation of not finding his initial letters or replies), and Claire a voice through the testimony of the trial that Abby uses. That way she is struggling with the varied voices, but still have her obsession with Phillippe build to the same climax.

OR

I don't know...but I hope it will become clearer when I sit down and begin to do it.

I do know that I'm more interested in and fascinated with Claire at the moment and I want her prescense to be strong in the book. She's the lynchpin I think.
