I recieved some anonymous feedback about one of my stories in which the main character becomes a call girl (my sexy career to be exact) among other things.

My feedback was something along the lines of
"I hope she gets aids and dies"

Now, not to hurt mr. anonymous' feelings, but it was a work of FICTION!!!! As in....NOT REAL. It isn't about me, merely a sexual fantasy.

Have you had feedback where some idiot can't tell the difference between reality and fiction?

Hi deliciously_naughty,

No, thankfully I haven't received any feedback like that. It would have upset and angered me too.

Sure they know the difference between fact and fiction alright.

Think about this, the sick bastard that send that to you is probably getting his(or her) jollies imagining how it's upset you.
Mm... either that, or some poor idiot out there has some really serious issues to deal with.

Some peope are just such sad beings.

Well, have a great day.

Feedback - People

Hi deliciously_naughty,

I have seventy-six stories posted. Since I have received feedback over a long period of time, I have spotted patterns.

First. Most feedback is well meaning.

Second. There are persons who come to Literotica on a one person mission to tell the authors that they will die of aids or go to hell. In either case, they find fault with the concept that people get a thrill out of sexual games with anyone other then their spouse.

Third. The above persons believe that if they low vote the first fifty stories in the top stories list that it will bring the lessor stories to the attention of the readers, who may find them less interesting.

Fourth. There are some stupid readers. He either does not understand the story, or it has a twist that he is not comfortable with. Perhaps, some part of the story reminds him of his own shortfalls. In any event, he turns on the messanger. You.

Any feedback with an address, I send an e-mail note to. Several times, when I explained why I placed a caracter in a position, I have received a nice e-mail back saying. "Well, gee, that is what could have happened. I did like your story."

Feedback

Hi deliciously_naughty,

With seventy-six stories posted, I have received a lot of feedback. Most is well meaning.

About one in twenty will state that you are stupid, or that you are nothing but a whore who will be raped, and/or die of AIDs.
Be aware that some people come to Literotica with the sole purpose of destroying it, either by running off the authors, or removing the top stories from their place, so that less interesting stories are seen by the readers.

In the past, there have been voting events wherein all the stories in a top list received so many one votes that they fell thirty or forty points, thereby placing them either on the last two pages of a top list, or off the lists altogether.

Then, of course, there are some stupid people who clearly do not understand the story or resent its point of view. They lash out at the messenger. You.

If I have moved a person to think, react, either good or bad, I know that I held their attention long enough for them to have read the story. I won!

Thanks guys...it isn't so much that the person got under my skin as annoyed me momentarily....in a wtf kind of way. I guess I just wanted some reassurance that it happens to others as well.

softly...over 70 stories? Color me impressed :)

Think of it this way...

Your story was so well written, the reader got caught up in it and forgot momentarily it was just fiction.

SInce I started writing a story with the main character a Native American in a black ghetto I've started getting a couple feedbacks with a definately anti-african american spin to them.

Claiming there was no such thing as an inner city culture, or that black culture was to blame for all the problems found there, or whatever...

Oddly enough, they all miss the fact that my character isn't black... (though her adoptive mother and sister are)

In my first story, AI Girl, I got one feedback a while back from the first site I posted it to (sorry, I didn't know literotica existed another a writer I admire who seems to like my work mentioned it in passing. :) )...

Anyway, I got a feedback from there complaining that I was slandering whites, cause the robot is a lone caucasian in a world which no longer has any races due to long term effects of globalization. Most people got the point I was making though... Or came to similar ones. It having been a tool showing how isolated she was.

Not sure how many people understand where I'm going with the new story. CHapter 3 helps, but chapter 2 gets some of them with it's rough treatment of sensitive topics.

Anyway...

yeah, some people really don't get it; or really seem to have a need to get mad at an author for challenging their views and assumptions.

Some people get way too personal.
I expect I'll always get a few of these feedbacks, since racism, classism, and religion are favorite subjects for me to write about.

Just as in any comunnity

I think in any community there are always going to be the non creative types that pick on the creative ones. They take the lazy way to get attention. Instead of working on something the community will praise them for they just sit around and put down. finding fault where there is none.

Feedback people

I happened to like naughty's story! It aggravates me to no end when readers make assumption about things. Can't a story be a story?
I think that it has to do with the lack of imagination of others. If you don't like what you read, then don't read it. If you don't like it because you feel the subject in the story is immoral or deserves what he/she gets, then you need a life.
And why are those people here in the first place? If you don't agree with erotic literature, don't read it and then get offended because it turned you on. Sheesh, some folks, I tell you.

Have had the good fortune to have had nothing but positive feedback so far but I am sure I'll bump up against the lunatic fringe eventually. Some people are just pathetic. The thing with a site like this is you just have to accept that even though the majority of folks who wander in here are going to be decent people there are bound to be a few sad fuckers who just want to spread their pitiful bullshit around in the hopes it will make someone else feel as miserable about themselves as they do. Let them sit in their own karma stew, I say.

I know what you mean. I got a feedback about a story of a boss coercing a family. The feedback said roughly, that it was a crock because the boss could have been jailed for blackmail.
I felt like replying that it was fiction, not a documentary, but needless to say the feedback was anonymous.

feedback

Okay?
It's shame that they are anonymous. I would really like to find out what these people think this stuff is all about.

I know of female authors who have received the "I hope you get aids " feedback.I have been told that I should be shot so they haven't seen my Av.:) It's all abit sick but hey! They are sick...not us.I can differentiate between fact and fiction.

Has this happened to anyone else

In reply to deliciously naughty, yes I have had the same kind of responses to stories. They came in response to some wife watching stories and followed pretty much the same theme. "I hope the cheating slut gets aids and dies." I think we have some readers out there who aren't mature enough to understand the concept of erotic stories. KK

My $.02

Haven't been doing this very long, only having seven stories posted so far.

I am a man and write in the female pov, and have received feedback on some stories as if I were actually a woman. I have not been hit with anyone desiring bad things on me or even a character, except with in the sense that I do write about submissive women and bdsm topics. In fact I have been honored that to this point all of my feedback has been positive and motivating.

I would be curious to note whether those posting such negative comments make general remarks or specifics about a character or scene in a story. If it is specific, you know they at least had to read it first. Adds to the "reads"tally" although you can almost bet they shot you a "1" at the same time.

I haven't had any remarks about my characters, but remarks about me are abundant! One guy even called me an idiot because of a small mistake I made when I mentioned Australia in a story.
Talk about a downer! But I have to say that as long as you folks read my stuff, I will keep writing it. And the same goes with everyone else.
Erotic stories are just that. Erotic and stories.
Kudos to all the newbies who don't let anyone get them down!!

I've gotten some scathing remarks about my personal life. They seem to fall into one of a couple types.

1. There are the folks who assume that because I write naughty stories, I must be a pathetic loser who can't get laid in real life.
(happily married for 10 years, and while schedules don't allow sex as often as might be desired, we still manage nicely, thank you).

2. The people who assume that what I write is what I must do, and when I wrote a series of twisted Gargoyles fanfic about Demona and her son, I'd get "thank God you don't have a son, you sick bitch" letters.

3. The ones who really think I'm depraved for writing naughty fanfic about Disney cartoons.

Those seem to be the primary groupings. And most of them are, of course, anonymous. Drive-by e-mails, I think of 'em. And while they bother me a little, I figure someone who won't even give a name or contact info isn't anyone I'd be all that interested in earning the respect of, anyhow. Pff. To heck with them.

I often find it interesting to write from a male POV although I'm a woman and thus don't have personal experience of what it's like for the guy. I consider it a challenge to see if I can write such stories effectively.

I agree.
Just because you write it, doesn't mean you do it. Maybe someone gave you an idea, maybe it has been a fantasy. i tell you as sad as it may be I fantasise about cartoon characters quite a bit. Oh, I am wholly pathietic Insert rolling eyes and a smile.
Some folks really have no imagination. Not all ideas about sex have to be so vanilla!
I guess it's hard to see the world from a missionary position!

trolls

Like peachykeen, I've been fortunate enough not to recieve any negative feedback. Here on the boards I've gotten some very helpful, constructive criticism, but no trolls as of yet.

The only two stories I've posted here are pretty tame by some standards, though- one-on-one, consentual, hetero- not much for anyone to get into a tizzy over.

I'm sure it's just a matter of time, though. Eventually I'll pen something that will get someone's panties in a twist (or is that a good thing?).

In any case, trolls aren't to be taken seriously in my book. Evidently they don't have the capacity to realize that stories are just that- stories.

I tell you guys, I got a really sweet feedback from a guy in India. He told me that he loved my story about Rhyley and her uncle and he would love to see more of it.
I haven't even finished the second half of the one I have up currently, but I think that Dean and Rhyley will hook up a few more times before she chronicles her studies in Australia!

Hi All,

Of the 70+ responses I recieved for the two stories I've posted here, only two were just plain nasty.

Both anon, one from a man telling me that I am going to hell for being a gay woman, the other telling me that I am an illiterate hack. I deleted both.

One thing that disturbs me though, is how immature many of the respondants seem to be.

Most positive responses appear to be from High School, or barely literate men that are too busy typing with one hand, rather than reading the fantasy and taking the story for what it is...a FICTIONAL story.

The psycho-twinkie response quotient is pretty darned high for stories I post here. Whereas I've only had three responses for poetry I've posted, and both were long and thoughtful.

Cheers All,

Suzy

At least you can take it with a grain of salt!
I still don't see how some folks can make a big deal over a STORY.
I still run into people who think Stephen King is a satanist and that he isn't a real writer because he isn't 100% accurate.
I applaud those who take creative license! That is what fiction is all about!
You keep writing, Suzy and folks will keep reading! Great job, by the way!

We kid ourselves when we even try to pretend that over 40% of the people here are actually adults...

Most people have a higher interest in porn at the age were they are not supposed to be involved in it than when nobody much cares anymore if they indulge.

Pre net erotica took two forms:
1. 'Romance novels', the porn women can view with social acceptance.
2. The stuff you bought in the local skin-store or read in the letters section of a 'Girlie mag'; which was probaly the same stuff sold at safeway by Harlequin, but with different cover art ;) *

When I grew up, a number of the boys had a very strong interest in getting their hands on the stuff. The girls pretended they didn't, but carried Romance novels around...

The internet makes that easy, all you have to do is lie about your age. You can get all the porn you want.

Personally I don't see a problem with this...

You can make a choice about immaturely written feedback:
1. Ignore it.
2. Try to understand it anyway and meet the needs of the crowd sending it. In other words, write for minors and the sexually immature...
3. Try to write yourself away from appealing to that type of reader.

You may think #2 puts you in the position of violating the agreements of the site. I would say it doesn't. That is the majority of the readership anyway, and if you don't have to write about banned topics (pedophilia for example) to meet their needs.

As for me, I don't realy write much stroke material and I have a lot of character development and hidden issues going on. As a result I tend to get more thought provoked responses, though not as many total as others might get. Mixed in with that is a small assortment of racistrespondants and a few who want me to -get to the sex part- quicker or at all (on other sites story codes solve this by letting me tell them before they read that my story is soft-core and not explicit -when such is the case-. The editors here chose to remove my story codes so instead I get people reading me who aren't getting their needs/fetishes met by me...)

, rather than reading the fantasy and taking the story for what it is...a FICTIONAL story.
If you don't take your own work seriously, your readers won't either. It will show in the work. In effect you are asking for the kind of respnses you end up getting.
The psycho-twinkie response quotient is pretty darned high for stories I post here. Whereas I've only had three responses for poetry I've posted, and both were long and thoughtful.
Poetry appeals to a different crowd. My recent discovery of this site is the first time I've found a place with online erotic poetry. I found it odd that it's at a site that does not allow Flash-Fiction (ultra short stories), since the two tend to come from a similar class of author...

Personally, I always found Poetry dull until I saw the movie Slam -a film about a minor drug dealer who writes street poetry. It was he first time I ever heard poems with any actual meaning or relevancy... The film was shot on location in the D.C. jail. I'm now hoping to learn more about Slam poetry.

FOOTNOTE:
* (Take the same story, put Fabio on the cover of one copy, and Ginger Lynn on the cover of the other copy... Women take one copy to P.T.A. meetings, and try to arrest men who read the other... gotta love double standards. I've had published lesbian erotica writers tell me that the porn men watch exploits women... pure hypocracy when you look at what's in their stories... )

Whoo! Well done, tenyari!
This is one person who knows their stuff! I have to agree with most of it because it is true.
Of course, I know that you are probably aware of this anyway, that the Fabio cover romance novels aren't quite as explicit as say the stories from Gent or the like. I realise that you probably already know that anyhow! Just adding it for folks who may not know, but some are pretty racy!
