Has anyone bought the SAD lights for Seasonal Affective Disorder? My doctor has suggested I get them but before I shell out $300 for a light I could use a little feedback here....:)

Go the cheaper route and buy some aquarium lights. They are the exact same thing.

Good choice my lady you can get full spectrum lights for aquariums here, dayglow flourescent tubes used to be the same as sunlight, only thing is you need to change the tube every 6months to a year as the light spectrum diminishes

Hmmmmm...never thought of that...Ty CC. Next question...anyone know if they really work??:)

While I have never personally used them cookiejar, I am in Ohio and have friends who swear by theirs. They all asked their doctors and pharmacists to recommend a brand for them.

OK...I give......what the HELL are you people talking about ?????????

"SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) is a type of winter depression that affects an estimated half a million people every Winter between September and April, in particular during December, January and February.

It is caused by a biochemical imbalance in the hypothalamus due to the shortening of daylight hours and the lack of sunlight in winter. "

Hey Temp...these lights are supposed to give you the sunlight your brain craves...

Hey Cookie......why don't you just move to Georgia with me!!!! We wear shoerts at Christmas time.....and have lots of sun...... {{{{{HUGGGGSSSSSS}}}}

Cookie, I thought with all the rain we've been getting here in the northeast you were kidding, and yes for all you people living in the warm sunny climates *cough*temptress*cough* It rained all weekend here. :(

*shakes head* shorts at Christmas time

Temp, I love the pics in your sig.. :D

Several yrs ago my husband built me what he called a Happy Light. It was a simple flourescent fixture in a wooden frame with a plastic panel over it to diffuse the light. He used 2 grow lights and 2 flourescent bulbs and it worked miracles for me. It still does, especially since around here in the wintertime,we are lucky to get 6 hrs of daylight.

SAD.......

I wonder what Eskimos and Laplanders do. Perhaps it might be beneficial to study those who live at the edge of the planet handle this concern.

going to the tanning salon always worked good for me but it got too expensive for me...but i use the grow bulbs for plants...they work well

The best time one needs bright sunlight is in the morning when we wake up, the phrase 'brighten ones day' is of real significance to a lot of us here.

Alternatively, you can buy yellow halogen bulbs and set them such that they light up in the morning (been made easy with timers and automated lighting and such), reflecting on your bedroom window instead of lighting up the whole room, the windows will reflect back the perfect amount of ambient light which the brain takes up as sunlight and Viola! your day is brightened, also, you can keep a mirror aside your pillow and look in it every morning you wake up, and your day id brightened.

PS NOte:- the second one worked for me and it depends on ones individual tastes, the first method will definitely work for you ;)

May you have bight joy-filled days.

They drink.

I know they work. Dead of winter, I get a max of 5 hours of sunlight.

How about Christmas lights? I get excited when I think Christmas is right around the corner!
