Quoting from one website:

"2013 is the year of the black Snake...the humanitarian of the zodiac. This 2013 year of Snake is meant for steady progress and attention to detail. Focus and discipline will be necessary for you to achieve what you set out to create. The Snake is ..is the enigmatic, intuitive, introspective, refined and collected of the Animals Signs. Ancient Chinese wisdom says a Snake in the house is a good omen because it means that your family will not starve."

I can use that! Or have used the image, but now I can run with the Year of the Black Snake, as Rachel seduces Lee in the hot tub.

"The Anaconda Arises!" :D

If there's a snake in the house your family will not starve. Of course they won't. They'll eat it!

Year of the Snake, huh? Given the phallic symbolism that snakes have, this could be a good year.

In ancient Egypt, it was not a good sign. It was the symbol of Set, the evil one, brother and killer of Osiris.

Um, depends on the snake. First, Set's symbol isn't the snake. His symbol is the scepter. Set, himself, was a strange sort of almost-jackal headed creature (which accounts for his connection to Anubis).

He was however related (or came to be related) to Apep, the great snake that represented chaos and each night tried to swallow Ra's sun barge on its journey toward dawn. Apep was considered evil and, yes, connected to Set.

But then there is Wadjet the cobra. She was protector of lower Egypt and connected to the land. Very good and powerful. Which is why she is on Pharaoh's (the Earthly incarnation of Horus, Set's enemy) crown.

So, in Egypt it really depends on what kind of snake enters the house ;)
