Enjoy the long, long day, amd spare a moment to remember the good ol' reliably and silently spinning earth

and the shortest night

for those of us who are spending it looking for something... anything... the shortest night, the night in which the Fey are riding high and celebrating the birth of the Holly King... blessings to anyone who's noticing this moment.

bijou

It is in this circular symmetry that surrounds all that is, we turn the Wheel once again -- North and South; Light and Dark; Summer and Winter, Male and Female. The seasons change and so do we.

May the Blessings of the Solstice be yours, in times of light, times of dark, and all those changing times between. For wherever you pause, may you always remember that you carry with you the seeds of hope, the seeds of joy, the seeds of change to plant in the changing light of the year.

Blessed Be to you and yours!

I forgot about this. Thank you for reminding me.

I'll have to make sure I do something interesting tonight,

Happy Solstice, everyone

Or alternatively: the shortest day and the longest night

(and it's freezing!)

What intellects, what minds must have moved those stones, to see the patterns of the world and the light and then seek to harness it, to mark the passages and to look forward to unknown. IF only I could travel back in time and hang with them......

sigh

You should have seen the size of their bowling balls.

You're the first person I thought of when I saw this thread. Happy longest night. :) :rose:

Ah yes, The Feminine Energy of Beltaine, Gives sway to the Masculine of Summer.
Feel the burning light surge into fullness, as the fruits of the earth begin to burgeon towards harvest.
It was around this time, that the fruits of Beltaine made themselves known, to have life come in the turning of the year at Imbolc.
What a wonderous, cyclical, every changing, never the same, earth we reside upon. How she has treasured us, nurtured us, warned us, punished us, and ultimately reclaimed us.
I give thanks yet again, waiting for the Masculine Counter Part of the Goddess to embrace me once more. My Lord... I see thee. My Lady, I am thee.

Brightest and Best to all...

Love, light and lollipops.

Belly dancing tonight under the gibbous moon!

I am so glad... that tonight I get to go a mile from my house to the ocean and give thanks

Blessed Be all

About the spinning earth

Smoot and his team managed to hear (or see, I suppose) the rumble of the big bang; perhaps the earth doesn't spin silently after all, and we can arrange to hear it, somehow. That would be sweet. Like whale song, maybe. A call for some axis grease!

Thought you might appreciate this news, from today's NY Times:

>About 80 men and women — some from as far as California and Honduras — woke up extra early to visit one of the world’s busiest intersections in search for serenity.

A fence guarded the group of people in Times Square in Manhattan as they listened to Douglass Stewart, a lead yoga instructor, belt out directions. Taxis honked horns and fire trucks blared by with their sirens loud. Yet, the group of people were unfazed as they shuffled on their mats.

More than 800 yoga enthusiasts registered for six sessions, said Tim Tompkins, a yoga enthusiast and president of the Times Square Alliance, the sponsor of the event. The sessions will go throughout the day, with the last one starting at about 7:30 p.m. This is the event’s fourth year; the event is held to coincide with the summer solstice. The Times Square Alliance also sponsors a New Year’s Eve celebration.

“What better way to bring in the summer solstice in the most chaotic place in the city,” Mr. Tompkins said.<

I remember my best summer solstice parties were spent while living up in the Yukon where the sun shines 24/7. Existentially, the day does not signal the longest day of the year, but the day in which the sun reaches it's highest point in the sky and marks the beginning of the long slow descent into 24/7 darkness. Let's just say you get extra drunk.

Silently spinning, perhaps, but whoa fast! I'd wonder why we don't get dizzy and fall off, but that would just be my metaphorical mind ridiculously pondering.

Today, this longest of days, it was for a moment stiflingly hot. However, a cool breeze has kicked in and while the sun may continue to beat damage upon my skin and the air isn't much different from that of a sauna, I am (upon reading your thread) simply sitting outside basking in the adagio of nature and life around me.

Thanks for reminding me of the day, SJ. Happy Solstice to you, as well.

George did more than that; he took pictures. Some of the most enlightening I've ever seen.
